i am not sure if this would be the correct board to post this. i am using smf 1.1.6 and would like to switch it from one site that is no longer active to another that is being used. i have tried to switch the smf file to the current site, but the images arent there and i cant log in to the forums to make any changes as it tried to log into the old site. any help would be greatly appreciated
How do I move my SMF forum to a different host? (http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?topic=489.0)
will this work under the same host, just different site
yes it will, the crucial parts are:
- duplicating the content of database
- using repair_settings.php to fix the links
if you have a custom theme, then most likely you will need to adjust its path too
i have installed the repair tool into the root folder of where the forums are located. i am still getting the same results when trying to log into the forums. i have no idea as to where to adjust the path of the forums to go be connected with the new site. i had a buddy that i gamed with set up the forums for a "clan site" i had going. now i would like to move the forums along with all the contents to another site i am using. and basically i have no idea about the forums axcept how to make changes in the admin panel of them. but i cant get in to the admin panle cause when i try to log in its still directed to the original site that is no longer valid. sorry for being confusing as i am confusing my self trying to switch this, lol
have you actually run the repair_settings.php file? without running it [from your browser] it does nothing.
by reading this i must have misunderstood it, "Using repair_settings.php is easy: simply upload the file to the root directory of your forum with FTP and then access the page in your browser." i thought it meant just type in the address with the /simplemachinesforums/index.php with it, i am not sure how to access that page
i figured out how to access it, thanks for all your guys' help, much appreciated
actually 1 more thing. the forum that it is now, is not the same as the one i had. the header and the main theme i had is not the same. it is a default one that it switched to
you will need to change it in your admin panel and fix the theme path.
out of all the themes i have for it, the core one is the only one visible. the others show no images to it
go in your admin panel to themes and layout -> theme settings and click on the link at the bottom of the page attempt to reset all themes
thank you very much for your help. it worked out great. thanks to all of you for your quick replies
