I'm not good at installing things and coding, so my decision on which board to install came down to what was available via fantastico. I did a bit of research and discovered that SMF seemed to be the more widely admired. So I let fanastico do the install for me, which seemed to work. Problem is it won't recognise the admin password it asks for during the setup process. I tried uninstalling it and then tried using a longer password (8 characters), but it wouldn't recognise that one either.
Anyone have any ideas of what the problem might be?
The install was for (1.1.13) btw.
if you seem to be having issues with that method installing smf, i would suggest you not use fantastico and try a normal install and see if that helps. Installing SMF (http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?board=2.0;sort=subject)
I gave it a go but I was just getting Internal Server Error's. Told you I'm not any good at installing. ;)
Perhaps its not just meant to me, thanks for the advice anyway.
then you need to check the file permissions. How do I chmod? / what is chmod? (http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?topic=477.0) your server may not like 777 permissions for one reason or another.
