Otsikko: 1.1.13. member Recount
Kirjoitti: Kathleen Chute - huhtikuu 19, 2011, 03:46:45 IP
1.1.13 I would Like to Have My Members Recounted O:)
Because Of spammers and Deleted accounts My ID numbers are all over the place. I would Like My Members Numbered to  match the forum count .
Say I have Member 416 just joined , but in admin, It doesn't say that , in fact once another member joins I have no way of knowing their number was . There actual number matters
Is there a way to recount members so that Number 416 member doesn't show as ID number 580. T
his really messes me up
I assign Member Cards with their official membership count
  Thanks Kathleen

i am not sure that will reset the count, have you tried? i think it is for recounting posts and such not member id numbers.

No, that won't fix it.

Members are assigned id in strict ascending numerical order, and that doesn't change on deleting a member. There's no good way to change it either, because of all the other table changes that are required. It's a big job and for the problems it can bring, not really a good idea.

Thank you all,
Would it be better to requesting Coding or Mod to have some visula Count On My Members? I understand how the system requires an ID to control the database, But I would Like to maybe add this is a mod Or feature .
Thanks
Kathleen

There's already a visual count of members right there on the front page... which is an accurate count not based on member id.

The Visaul count dose not assign a Number for each member like the ID dose. Maybe If it could display Memeber # (*) in there profile or somewhere I can View it as admin
Thanks Kathleen

Or you could just save so much hassle and consistency issues by just using the numeric id that the user has.

In all honesty, trying to do anything else is so fraught with issues it's just not worth it.

Doesn't the Admin > Members view show the member id#?
index.php?action=viewmembers

The profile link would show that, but the idea of non-consecutive numbers is problematic here. Unfortunately there is absolutely no good solution for assigning numbers to users without any gaps.

My Members are going by actually Count.
They waiting for 1000 members. I'm Keeping track a Little, and I assign card to folks who give me their information. But The Ones I Don't send Cards Too, I Need to assign Numbers to Them.
What I Need is a Mod that will assign each member with a Number in Order that they joined. In My Case Its Important.  My ID Counter is not working well anyway.
My Latest Member was # 416 But My ID says 580. This is a Pain, But I guess I will just deal with it .
Thanks for the Help

I'm sorry, I missed the part where I already explained that this is a technical nightmare to implement, speaking as a programmer that is.

Look at it this way: you have 416 accounts but you've had a total of 580 registrations - what happened? Were some of them spammers, or people who deleted their account?

Whatever happens, you are always going to have a situation whereby accounts will be created and then not used which will still give you those gaps.

You could try and kill all spammers, but that is not realistic. If you are trying to reach 1000 members, then that stat is already on your board index. Member ID numbers do not and realistically cannot indicate the number of members on your site.

Thanks ,
I am issuing Cards to my Members as the compile with rules and Give me their addresses. Each card is legal proof of membership. So a Number helps Thanks

Any info is there a recount of member posts for 1.1.13 yet? I had forgotten to check the Count Posts option from admin console for all boards. And now when I turned the counting on it works ok but I cannot recount the posts they have done before this. Members who have posted several replies to posts, still show "posts: 0" in their profile.

Kathleen, the account ID numbers are given in the order that the members have registered to your site. Gaps can not be avoided, if you allow people to remove their accounts or if you delete any accounts from the forum. The system is designed so, to make sure each account gets a unique ID.

temestos, your post has nothing to do with the issue in this topic - so I'd suggest you ask about that mod in it's own support topic.
