Otsikko: Two SimpleM forums?
Kirjoitti: g_cake - huhtikuu 22, 2011, 11:58:16 IP
I'm curious, is it possible to integrate two SimpleM forums into a single site?

A tough question. May be you can further elaborate what you want in details. There are actually several ways to achieve such a thing but your elaboration to waht you need is most important.

Lets say when you click on a link in the main page it takes you directly to that forum.
I want to make my site bilingual and wish to have a forum for each language.

Something like the following:

It is possible but you may need to choose whether you want the forum in two seperate folder (two separate installations) or  in one folder (one installation) but having different categories (which each category or more category act as a forum)?

There is a Subforums Mod (SMF 2.0 RC3) here: http://portamx.com/2008/subforums-v1-0-for-smf-2-0-rc3/

Or Multiple Forum Mod (Officially up to SMF 2.0 RC2) http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=2137

There are also some topics in Tips & Tricks Board where you can share database as between two forums.

If you are not intending to share anything, simply create a front page using php or html which link to your forums.

Something like the following:

If you don't need or want to share contents or userdata between the two different forums, it would be easy.

Mysite.com
-> Forum1: Mysite.com/forum1/index.php ( Complete install with /forum1/ as forum root )
--> DB1: smf_

-> Forum2: Mysite.com/forum2/index.php ( Complete install with /forum2/ as forum root )
--> DB1: smf2_ OR DB2: smf_

Or of course, like mentioned you can go the harder route and try to integrate them to work together "for real".
