Otsikko: Need help with upgrading forum
Kirjoitti: Calaquendi - toukokuu 02, 2011, 07:42:41 AP
Hello!
I'm stuck at upgrading my huge forum (hogvartsas.lt/forumas) and need some help..

1. My forum version is 1.1.8 and I'd like to upgrade it to 2.0 RC5.
2. I must keep all important data (members, membergroups, messages, topics, boards)
3. I've installed many modifications to the current forum but I don't need them anymore (I will install new ones).
4. I've also added some custom modifications by hand. I.e. edited some files without making a package. Some database tables are modified too. And I need them in my new forum.
5. I would like not also upgrade my forum to new version but also have it clean. I would like to remove all packages, database tables and files which are not necessary anymore. I would like to have a clean 2.0 RC5 forum with old data.

What I have already done:

First try:
1. Created new database and installed there a fresh copy of 1.1.8.
2. Made a full backup (with structure and data) of current forum.
3. Dropped all tables of new forum and imported a backup.
4. Uploaded upgrade files and tried to upgrade.
4. Got unknown error.

Second try:
1. Reinstalled that test forum.
2. Made a backup of current forum (only data of tables which exist in a fresh database).
3. Tried to import that data but failed.
4. Got an error that some rows in table do not exist. Some of them were created by installing packages and some - by hand.

Third try:
1. Made a total copy of current forum (files and database).
2. Uninstalled and deleted packages (I thought that it would remove all tables and rows which are used in these modifications  :-[ ).
3. However, it didn't helped - database was the same.
4. Then I tried to remove unnecessary tables by hand and when refreshed forum got error: Table 'forumas_conv.smf_tp_settings' doesn't exist

I made more tries, every time changing something different but still didn't get a result. So now I don't know what else to do...  :'(

Usually, if you wish to upgrade an existing active 1.1 installation to 2.0, you should simply get the Large Upgrade package for 2.0 RC5, and upload it's contents over the 1.1 installation, making sure everything get's overwritten. After this, just run the upgrade.php included in the files, and that will upgrade your Database as well. :)

I know it :) I use large upgrade package. However, I'd like to have clean 2.0 RC5 forum database without tables from 1.1.8 modifications.
The main problem is how to move important data from current forum to fresh installation of 1.1.8. After that I could upgrade forum to 2.0 RC5, I think so :)
Or it's not so easy?  ???

Well, the only way to simply remove all old tables that I can think of right now, is to manually compare a fresh installs database, and your current database, and then one by one remove what is not needed.
But usually, mods don't add that much - and going to that length to remove traces of them would not make much sense to me unless they affected the upgrade process somehow....
