Title: Strange characters after upgrade to 2.0
Post by: smartmouse on May 16, 2011, 09:34:52 AM
Hello, i have a forum with italian language (non UTF-8), then i have "accented characters" in every post!
Today i have upgraded my forum to 2.0 and all accented characters became "strange" characters!

For example i have à instead of à or ù instead of ù.

How to fix it? I wont install UTF-8 language...

You might need the RC5 Italian language pack.

I have already installed it! It was required during upgrading process...

I'm using italian language (ISO-8859-1) and i also tried to install italian UTF-8 but every post show strange chars instead of accented ones!
I also tried to set english, but nothing is changed. Anyway i think the problem is not related to the forum language...

So i had a look at the database and i have this situation... Is there anything wrong?

Problem solved!

I have first exported database to SQL file and deleted it from server
I have opened the backup of the database with UltraEdit and i  have replaced all "DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8" entries with "DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1".
Then i have saved the file as ANSI/ASCII format.
Finally i have imported again to server and it has worked!

Now the characters are all ok. Thank you anyway.

WooHoo!

Thanks for sharing what you did, smarty!

I'm damned sure that this'll come in handy, sometime, for others!
