hello, i know there are loads of different posts that may already explain this but i would like some recent info if anyone knows it.

i would like to know the best way to have a login page so if my websites url is typed in it will take you to a custom login page then once logged in it will let you got to the homepage or forum,, the forum is integraed into the website,, would it also be possible that if the user has not logged in they wont be able to type the forum url for example to get by the login page?

If you go to Admin -> Features and Options -> Basic Features and uncheck Allow guests to browse the forum, it should do what you want.

hi mate, thanks for your reply, i already have that but it doesn't stop people from viewing the site, i probably never explained it right, ideally i would like to use smf's login for my webpages so if you r not logged into smf the only page you will be able to see will be the one asking you to login or resister

There's a thread on the board somewhere that discusses integrating your website into SMF.  If I can remember anything more about it, I'll try to find it.  Hopefully someone else can come up with the link.

You could use SSI for that. :)
