Otsikko: Loading an old forum?
Kirjoitti: legacystone - toukokuu 30, 2011, 05:02:57 IP
I have a forum that used to be online several years ago.  The old webmaster sent me the SQL file of the forum.  It was an SMF forum.  What I need to know is... How do I bring a new forum online, using that old SQL database?

Thanks,

Mike

Create a new SQL database and restore the backup you were sent. Do you know how to do this?

Then install SMF. Do you know what version it was running? Anyways you may as well wait as version 2 will (probably) be released today or tomorrow.

Then run repair_settings.php which you can download from here: http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?topic=663.0

Then I think you need to run the install.php file (or it may be upgrade.php - see what's in the installation) in the forum's home directory.

Good luck, let us know how is goes :)

I created an SQL on GoDaddy. 5.0

Then imported my SQL database into that.

Then I started installing SMF, and I got this:

Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock'

you need to update/correct the connection information for your database in settings.php which can be done with repair_settings.php as suggested above.
