I note that my statistics for pageviews show far more that the number of views for each thread when added together.
Why is this? can it be re set to display the real total.

I'm thinking that the total page views is for any page on your forum, not just threads but also pages like help pages, registration, the main page and so forth.
The other is views for each thread, so those will never add up to the total page views as people are looking at other pages that are not just threads.
This seems a good explanation.
I am getting great page views considering the forum is only three days old. (400 a day)
Like Storman said, the stats include views of the index and other things not separately counted elsewhere :)
