Otsikko: How to prepare for easy Restore before updating to SMF 2.0
Kirjoitti: netsmith2012 - kesäkuu 14, 2011, 03:09:48 IP
I would like to make sure that I can easily revert to our existing 1.1.14 prior to running WebInstall to setup 2.0.
I have backed up my forum folder via FTP onto my local system.
And I ran the dbase backup from the admin tab to create a local copy of the dbase.

Now I'm ready to run WebInstall, carefully following their directions.
But if it happens to go south on me (as I can see from numerous forum topics, does happen sometimes), is it easy and straight forward to recover the dbase and the forum so it will simply be back to where I am now ?
I imagine I can just restore my forum files.
But what about restoring the SQl dbase data ? This what concerns me. Will the dbase data be modified by the install of 2.0 such that it needs to be reverted to my backed up state ?
Thank you. I need to be confident about this before proceeding.
Much appreciated.

Oh, I don't think I have any Mods. Is there an easy way to check this ?

please do not use the backup from the admin panel to backup your database, it is known to fail on large databases. How do I backup my database? (http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?topic=492.0)

there is no really easy way to revert back, put your files back then you would need to reload the database overriding everything that was there.
