to change your mysql password with the new one you must  change Settings.php  in your forum root directory or you can use Repair_settings file:

What is repair_settings.php? (http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Repair_settings.php)

I uploaded the repair_settings.php earlier, but didn't understand what I was supposed to do with it after I opened it in my browser. I will try this again.

scroll down  to  MySQL Database Info

below you will find a filed named  MySQL password:     here is where you will add your new mysql password, click on save settings at the bottom.
