Otsikko: Why does this happen when I restore database with cpanel?
Kirjoitti: ApplianceJunk - kesäkuu 26, 2011, 04:53:56 IP
I used cpanel to back up my database for our appliancejunk.com site.

When I take the current database backup file and use cpanel to restore it to another .com that I use for a test site to play with it shows a size of 0.0MB when the original files size was 10MB.

I run the database 'check' and 'repair' in cpanel on the test site and everything checked ok.
I also run repair_setting.php on the test site.

The funny thing is I can connect the forum to the uploaded database on the test site, but it only shows post up to 2008, why?

Original site that I backed up database from: http://appliancejunk.com

Site that I uploaded backed up database file to: http://johnpahl.com/smftest

Why don't all my members and topics show up when I uploaded a current database?

that happened to me once, it happens when the database s too big to download it using phpmyadmin/smf.

i had to backup it using ssh mysqldump command.

How big is to big?

I back up the database daily and can see our database file grow over time as our site grows.

When I back up the database using the tools through the forum admin panel the file is about the same size as when I use cpanel to back up the database file.

i cant remember very well but thats because php have a size and time limit, it appears in the phpinfo, you can set it higher or just backup through another method.

then i dont know whats the problem but answering your question, that happens because the backup is not complete.

Try deleting all of the error log entries... When your DB becomes too large Mysqldump will timeout to prevent a server overload from adversely affecting other clients on that server.

Thanks for the reply.

When I try to log into my test site johnpahl.com/smftest to clear the error log I can't log in.

I get a message of 'You were unable to login. Please check your cookie settings.'

Hmm...

Now that I think about it I believe when I run repair_settings.php I used it to change the cookie name: (don't remember what it was set to) to the, Recommended value: "SMFCookie11".

Wonder if that is my problem now trying to log in and if it is how I find out what the cookie name should be now.

there is no set value the cookie should be, so you cant really look it up somewhere and find a definite answer

I was able to look up the cookie name setting in admin panel on the appliancejunk.com site that I got the database from to start with.

I then used repair_settings.php on my test site at johnpahl.com/smftest to check and change the cookie name. This let me log into my test site now and clear the errors.

I still don't see all my topics and members from the database though.

Still looking for answers as to why when I backup my database using cpanel and then restore it to a test site using cpanel I get less then half the members info, post, topics, etc.. Like it don't get the last two years or so...

no idea on that, maybe your host has some restriction on the backup. you can try to backup with phpmyadmin. How do I backup my database? (http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/How_do_I_save_the_database_data)

it ll be the same because phpmyadmin use php to upload/download the files.

post your phpinfo.
