Otsikko: Backing up database
Kirjoitti: Topman - heinäkuu 09, 2011, 04:40:12 AP
The last time I backed up the Mysql database the file size was 1.8mb
I did it again yesterday, after many more posts had been added and the file size was LESS at 1.1mb.

Is there any explanation for this?
No posts were deleted in between and no changes were made that would account for such a reduction in file size.

Confused-dot-com!  (UK readers will understand this!)

what way are you using to backup the database? How do I backup my database? (http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/How_do_I_save_the_database_data)

I go to phpadmin and then use "Export" to get  the file to My Documents on my PC

From the link you provided that is what I think I am doing.

maybe at one point you selected a few more options on that page, no idea. but as long as you have the backup that is what matters. the size does not matter as much.

I did delete the error log before backing up,  but I dont think this would be nearly half my database.
