When members and staff member (not admins) create a topic, something weird happens. Every member says that the post gets cut off, everyone gets cut off at a different amount of letter/words. Why?
Does anyone know the resolution to this? It is really bugging me! :/
please do not bump within 24 hours we are all volunteers and reply if and when we know the answer
Hi, don't have an answer. But rather a bunch of questions. :)
Which exact version SMF 1.1.x?
At about how many characters does it do this?
Is this happening with the default theme?
Which post box is giving the trouble? Quick reply or the other one?
Is there a similar problem with long PMs?
And most important maybe.. which browser is it happening with?
SMF 1.1.14
Honestly its many different amount of words/letters in every topic is created. I have to edit the topics myself for them to completely show the entire post and I don't want to do that. Its only happens when creating a new topic, not replying or quick reply. I have't tried the PM, so I have no clue and no member has complained about the PM.
does it happen only when certain words are in the posts? what exactly are you editing in the posts to get them to show?
Nothing, its just the ADMIN who can type the entire post which is very weird?
These are the topics I have edited:

And most important maybe.. which browser is it happening with?
Google Chrome, Safari?
Is everyone one who is having the problem using those browsers?
Could you get them to try another browser to see if it's a browser issue?
I got 10 of them to try it on Firefox & Opera. It still didn't work.
OK, so it's probably not a browser issue then.
Any errors in the error log?
Does this happen with the default theme?
Yeah it does happen with the default theme and no, nothing in the error log. :/

Nope, still didn't do anything. What file on my site would be messed up for this to happen? Post.php
Yes, that would be in Post.php.
Does this happen in both quick reply and on the post page.
Those posts are using bbc. Does this happen with a normal post also (no bbc used) ?
NVM.. no it didn't. :/ I tried it without BBC and it still didn't work.
I double checked now, it does the same with all of the option (create a topic, reply, quick reply)
I've noticed the major issue for this! If I were to copy maybe a summary from another site(not SMF) and I post/create/modify/etc. on the forums, it always get cut off at the punctuation such as (" ') and only those! It doesn't get cut off at (, . / ?), does that help in any way?
There's a chance that it's carrying some formatting which is messing things up.
Try copying the text into a text editor or Notepad to remove any formatting. Then copy and paste from there into the post.
But why must I do that though? Can't I just post it in. :/
Can you ask the users to TRY the notepad trick to see if it will work? That will help narrow things down.
Have you tried taking away ALL the mods, to see if this makes a difference?
Can you identify something that happens at the point the post gets cut off? some kind of formatting at that point in the paste-in?
Or have you solved the problem?
