Otsikko: There's an sql db Backup under SMF Admin but no Restore - Howcum, and ...

I easily find the Backup facility under SMF (1.1.13) Admin but no Restore.  SMF Backup is so much easier to use than PhpMyAdmin backup and restore that:
1) I wonder why there is no SMF Admin Restore?
2) Is one recommended way to backup/restore thus with SMF Backup and with PhpMyAdmin Restore?
3) Is that way just as good doing both backup/restore under PhpMyAdmin?

Thank you, Peter Schwenn

1) I wonder why there is no SMF Admin Restore?
- You could reuqest that for the next release of SMF.
2) Is one recommended way to backup/restore thus with SMF Backup and with PhpMyAdmin Restore?
- You can only restore with phpMyAdmin
3) Is that way just as good doing both backup/restore under PhpMyAdmin?
- Yes just both similar to each other

there will not be a restore option in smf, most of the time when you need to restore you cant access your forum anyway. and there is discussion about possibly removing the backup function anyway.

Indeed the only circumstances where you are likely to ever require restoring your forum, you are likely to need to do it because something has gone wrong with smf and likely that you can't access the forum.

Good points about why the lack of restore capability. I would add that SMF backup has been no end of problems for users, so it's no surprise that they're thinking about removing it. It just duplicates phpMyAdmin/[your favorite MySQL interface here] function anyway, and does a poorer job.

For most smaller forums the smf backup is brilliant, quick, easy and handy.

But for large forums especially those on decidated VPS/Servers then you'll need something better.

I think there is no need for there to be backup or restore functionality within SMF, theres no need to duplicate functionality that already exists in phpmyadmin which is the easist to use or for a bit more advanced users the mysql command line options.
