Hi all
Not sure where to ask this, but this seems to be about anything here.
I have an SMF forum with about 2,200 members. Its running 1.14.
I wanted to see how much problems in upgrading to 2.0, so I took one of my Domain and host that I have and uploaded all SMF files from that 2,200 member site and uploaded the database as well.
I had my support folks to replace my present old database witrh the 2,200 member one.
After running repair_settings and making sure all was ok, I then put forum in maintenance and did the 2.0 upgrade with no problems.
I then logged in and the forum was intack just as it is running on my pernament forum.
Now this forum has a completely differernt DND name this one is located around the world from the original.
This morning I logged in and noticed I had two post from my members of the original forum as well as 7 members that just logged on.
How can they actually log on this new forum if not even the www.name has been published?
They actually were logging into the original forum, but somehow they got in thenew one.
Something wrong with the datebase?
Thanks
Bill
That is because the 2 forums are in some way still linked to each other by in the database
Think you better run repair settings again and make sure the links are all referring to the new url.
Thanks Martine M
I did do that but will again do it and double check
Bill
Ok I re-checked my repair_settings today and all links point to my new domain name. None what so ever point to the old server.
yet TWO new members from the old forum tried to get in. I have it in maintenance mode for testing.
To recap. I have a valid forum running under a different domain name and its 1.14 with about 2200 members.
I want to upgrade to 2.0 , so I created a new forum ynder a complely different domain halfway around the world from my present forum.
I used my database from my present forum of 2200 members.
I had support to empty out my old database and put this one.
I did my repair_settings and all and the forum runs fine as a duplicate of the old one running SMF 2.0.
However I am still getting some members from my other forum trying to login here.
How can that be possible.
I dont want to put my forum names here but lets say my originally forum was www.good.net
and my test forum is www.testforum.com
Members type www.good.net in their browser but somehow get into my www.testforum.com and try to post there.
have I made any sense?
Thanks for any help.
Bill
If they are really going to the url of the test forum as they cclick the url for the life forum then that is strange indeed and at that point I can help you anymore.
But I'm sure someone else can.

You hit it on the head as of what is hapening.
They click to go to live forum but instead log in test forum.
Have a good day. maybe someone will kn ow what is up

your paths were changed on the wrong forum then. use What is repair_settings.php? (http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Repair_settings.php) to put your paths back to where they should be for the live site. then i hope you have a separate database for the test forum where you can run repair_settings.php to change the paths there.
your welcome, Illori is already here she is good so she will help you fix it I am sure.

Thank you for your info
But I did not run repair_settings or change anything in the live forum. Nothing at all
Infact the database I used from the live forum was an June 2011 not the latest Aug 2011 Database.
I do a daily download of my live Forum.
I just extracted that database out and uploaded to my Test Forum and had support to empty old test one and put the live one.
I than ran repair_settings.php and made sure all URL's were correct.
So the live one has never been changed.
The database is completely seperate and halfway around the world from my live Forum.
Nothing at all in any of the SMF or php settings that I can see point to my live forum
this is a stump for me
I even did a search for the loive forum to see if anything came up with the test forum and it did not.
Bill
if you link us to the 2 forums we might be able to tell more, but it sounds like the urls are getting mixed up and the only way is because either they were edited in settings.php or repair_settings.php was run to change them.
