I just logged in to my forum now to find out so many irrelevant posts by strange usernames that are clearly not humans. Most time they change the titles of original topics to all kinds of unreadable stuffs, or advertisements. Its has been on for a while now. How do I prevent non-humans from registering and posting on my forum? Pls help
Do a search for anti-spam, it is a very popular topic and you will find a wealth of information.
Will do so shortly, thanks
Any other tips?
I have found and installed one anti-spam MOD, hope it works well, thanks
The one that requires a question stops robots from registering on forums.
I didnt have any non humans making posts. Not sure how they can do this but can see it would be a problem.
These days the human spammers are as much a problem as non humans. Quite often it is difficult to even know they are spammers, with some semi on topic posts.
I have found this.
I had one human member that made 9 posts all quite genuine although not offering much, then a day or so ago I discovered that they had inserted anchor text links to various websites inside these posts. Obviously I deleted all the links and banned them. Daft thing was they could have had a sig link with just six more posts!
I also have people registering as members without ever making a post. They just leave their website URL in their profile for a link I suppose.
I delete the links so they don't gain anything and delete their accounts after 100 days if no posts have been made. Even if they were genuine they would have forgotten their username or password by then.
Is there a mod that stops links being dumped inside posts?
I used the Stop Forum Spam mod along with recaptcha. When I added the Stop Forum Spam mod I went from 20-30 spammers regging a day to one getting through once a month or so.
I too was bombarded by bots and all types of spam. I was getting anywhere from 30 to 70 hitting each day. But luckily I found just what I needed.
It's called Peoplesign. It prevents all bots from signing up and reduces your bot hits to nothing. I know it did the trick for me.

I would personally recommend HttpBL ( Which requires a Project Honeypot account though. )
