I have spent years perfecting my theme over at http://www.corsotalk.com.
I am curious to know how hard on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being very difficult you all more experienced themers think it would be to convert my theme layout found at http://www.corsotalk.com would be to a new 2.0 install?
I already have the following packages installed on the new fresh 2.0 install:
- tinyportal [since its the basis of what i use on the old layout]
- VB Style - Poster Info On Top [since i hand coded the layout years ago before this mod was available but matches the 1.1.14 flow of things and makes it much easier to upload a mod :)]
- Add Join Date to Post
I want to keep it the same for 2 reasons, 1 because I LOVE the flow and feel of things and spent a very long time getting it to look right, and 2 [the most important reason] because my members are easily discouraged when there is to drastic of a layout/function change with something they have become very familiar with. :)
I look forward to feedback and any tips/tricks or suggestions any of you more experienced theme artists may have for me.
Thanks so much.
Is this the right section to post this kind of question in?
yes, but most people dont convert themes as 2.0 has the templates totally rewritten and it is often easier to just start over.
Thank you Illori, do you have any input on how difficult you think it would be to start over replicating this main header and footer layout? Those are the biggest most important features when keeping the look and flow for my members. :)
thanks again.
i have no idea as i dont make themes
Ok thank you so much. I suppose I should ask the right questions to get the answers I am looking for. I will mark this topic as solved and see if there is not a better way to ask to get the answers that I need :)
Thanks again.
Looks quite simple to make, really.
2.0 intimidates me, i was just getting comfortable with the 1.1 layout and files.
I guess the biggest thing I am looking for is the same header and footer, nav buttons and setting the center header image and the TP & forum content widths.
I will say that SMF 2.0 is better than SMF 1.1.x and infact it is easier to customize than SMF 1.1.x .
Start playing with index.css , change look of header and footer first and then move forward.
For a theme designer, as Akhyne says, its easy to make your kind of theme in 2.0
I will take the plunge and see what I come up with :) it only took me over a year to even try out the 2 versions but promised myself once it was official I would give it a shot. So here goes ..... [gulp]
