Otsikko: Help: Submit new post timeout problem
Kirjoitti: paulscode - syyskuu 11, 2011, 03:06:50 AP
Hello, I am using SMF 1.1.14, and I've recently started having a problem where when I submit a new post, the page times out.  The new post goes through, so the problem seems to be related to the page reload after the post is submitted to the database.  The problem does not affect editing an existing post, just submitting a new one.

The only message I get is the default Internet Explorer message "cannot display the webpage", with nothing useful.  Nothing gets printed to the forum error log.  One user reported the following error message (I can not replicate this myself, so may be unrelated):

Database Error: MySQL server has gone away
File: /homepages/33/d104431730/htdocs/paulscode/forum/Sources/Subs-Post.php
Line: 1464

The weird thing is it only affects one specific thread.  Other threads are unaffected by the problem, and can be posted to without a problem.  The particular thread is relatively long, so perhaps that is related.  Anyone know if this is something that happens normally to long threads?  Any ideas on a fix or work-around?

--BTW-- If it weren't for the "one specific thread" thing, I would immediately blame my hosting company (1and1), but it seems odd to me that it would only affect the one thread and not any of the others which reside on the same database.  I suppose if noone can think of a better solution, I'll just have to split off an new thread and lock the original thread.

considering that your host is an oversold host, i am surprised you have not had more issues. once you find a decent host your issues will go away.

1and1, despite their claims, is one of the worst hosts out there. Get as far away from them as you can - the sooner the better.
