Otsikko: I moved my forum. I did things. Deleted PM's popped up again. smf_ structure?

Hi,

Where can I find some reading on the smf_ structure?

I moved my forum from a .com to a .co.uk so to say and repair settings really helped out there. There is still an old provider /var/www/etcetra link in avatars according to SMF but everything seems to work allright.

However, I had some utf8 - latin1 issues, turned out to be bigdump.php needed a charset setting.

So I ended up with mangled characters like euro sign and those 2 dots on the letter e.

What I did, still keep the mangled database (backupped of course though)

with MySQL REPLACE overwritten the whole database/ tables with the old but known good database so atleast the users would not get 2 or more weird characters instead of the € or the ë and those others.

Now that wasn't smart to do but it seemed the best solution at that time. Database was f'd here and there already anyway.

Sooo I expected to loose some settings, and it did. Users complained that their profile information became out of date.

No worries I thought, lets import the smf_members table from the mangled database, not expecting much special characters there and the forum users all went silent, I mean, they did not post any issues to me anymore.

Well, here it comes.

By overwriting the old smf_members with the up to date profile settings of the users, all my deleted PM's came back. And that was confirmed by other issues. users.  :-[

Not being a big deal, those PM's still are fully readable and seem not to be deleted.

Now I wonder 2 things, is this normal and where can I learn more about the SMF database structure?

ALL deleted PMs returned? Not just "the pm's I had deleted between the time I created the backup copy and the time I restored it?"
