I know there is a setting in admin to remove/delete old posts but some of the ones on my forum are still helpful and it would be good to keep them. Instead of going through thousands of posts/threads working out which to lock/keep, is there a way to make posts over a certain age 'read only'? Lately there has been a rash of people digging up threads from a year or more ago and posting replies - if I can lock/read only all these it would solve the problem.
Any help appreciated.
There is a mod to do that, but it only works with 2.0 - http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=2040
(It does work with 2.0 RC4 and later, but you need to use the emulate version feature to get it to install on versions newer than 2.0 RC3).
Thanks - unfortunately i'm still on 1.x version and have no idea how to upgrade as my ex used to do that side of things. I will need to sort out an upgrade eventually and will put this mod on my list for then - cheers :)
You will handle the upgrade OK, I am certain.
I think this is an excellent idea for core functionality for a future version -- make topics "archival" after they've gone "stale"
I hope you won't mind me marking this question solved. I know it doesn't exactly solve the problem, but it did answer your question.
