Hello,
You'll have to excuse me for the questions, as I'm not very computer savvy.
I've had SMF forums installed for quite some time, and I've never really had too many problems, so I'm hoping this can be easily rectified.
I recently tried to log into my SMF using my Username and Password, which is my admin account.
I received the "Username does not exist" message. My forums are set so new registrations are subject to approval, in an effort to stop spammers from registering. I usually login everyday to find 10 - 20 new spammers waiting to be approved, at which time I simply reject their registrations.
I contacted my hosting service and found that they did have a problem with one of their sql servers, on which my forums are hosted.
Although they seemed to have fixed the problem, it looks as though the database may have been lost.
After searching the SMF community, I found info which led me to try and view my smf_members list in mysql database.
It looks as though the only members on the list are probabley the last 2 days of spammers waiting for approval.
My username and all registered members from prior to the problem are missing.
Is there anyway to add myself directly to the smf_members list in order to access my forums again?
I have read some other posts here on smf that mention "querys" and being able to set yourself back as admin, but I don't fully understand how to initiate such a query so any remedies like this, I would have to ask for detailed instructions on.
Again, my forums were set to approval so re-registering won't work. Any suggestions?
If it seems like a lost cause, is it possible for me to access my /htdocs thru FTP and simply delete my smf forums folder and start again with a new install?
I am running smf 1.1.14
Thanks in advance,
Frost
Just curious...
Do you have a recent backup of the database that you could restore?
If not, it might be worth asking your host, coz they might have, if you're lucky.
I do seem to have a backup from May 2010. Would it be worth a shot to restore such an old back-up?
I'm not too worried about any members login info that may be lost due to restoring such an old back up.
I've been the admin since 2006. Just some extra info, I tried to register a new account and although it's subject to approval, I do see it now listed on my smf-members table.
Thanks again,
Frost
if you restored that backup you risk loosing all posts etc since then, if you are willing to risk that then go ahead and load the backup.
Thanks, going to try that right now

Restoring the back up seemed to have worked. I just need to reconfigure all my themes, logos, ect to the new directory that I installed after this back up.
Thank you again,
Frost
Glad you got it sorted, man!
Might be good to make more frequent backups, in future. ;)

Visions of Gollum will haunt me everynight if I don't.
I upgraded to 1.1.15 but it seems my database is at version 1.1.11. It mentioned upgrade.php, how would I go about upgrading my database? Is this something my hosting company can do?
Thanks again SMF,
Frost
there are no database changes so you can safely ignore that message
