I was wondering if the supported databases is going to be expanded to include NoSQL as well?
This could give the SMF software an incredible performance boost.
Does PHP even support that?
The whole NOSQL thing is cool and all, but I understand that the advantages are in certain areas, not everywhere. What kinds of activities do you expect to see a performance boost?
Also, how widely-deployed are the various systems using this technology and is there a common way to manage the databases? My current understanding is that things are very fragmented and each system has its own method for updates and viewing data.
The production deployments (http://www.mongodb.org/display/DOCS/Production+Deployments) list at MongoDB is pretty impressive, but I don't know how widely used the other systems are. It certainly looks cool, but I'm not sure how easily we could support it without adding an identifier to every single query we run.
Also, I thought he was talking about the actual RDBMS called NoSQL (http://www.strozzi.it/cgi-bin/CSA/tw7/I/en_US/nosql/Home%20Page), not the movement in general.
IMO forums are way too relational for NoSQL to make sense for 99.9999% of the cases.
