Adding Banner to site.
Hey guys,
my site is ww.ta-gaming.com
my version is SMF 2.0.1
I have the banner I want to add.
Inferno Design By DzinerStudio
For some reason the theme doesnt have the option to just change the logo by entering the url.
Any ideas?
Most custom themes don't have that option. Are you wanting to replace the logo or replace the header image with a full width banner.
;)
Erm.... the logo i guess, the theme used to have the makers logo at the top of the page where I want my banner. This is the banner i want to put on.

Make sure that your image is in .png format and name it logo (logo.png). Then add it to the images/custom folder overwriting the current logo.png image.
Then open index.css and find:
#logo a {
float: left;
display: block;
width: 350px;
height: 110px;
background: url(../images/custom/logo.png) no-repeat;
}
change to:
#logo a {
float: left;
display: block;
width: 648px;
height: 98px;
background: url(../images/custom/logo.png) no-repeat;
}
;)
LainaaThen add it to the images/custom folder overwriting the current logo.png image.
How do I do this part? When i click edit theme files, it allows me to see them all, but there is no edit button.
You can do this by using FTP or a file manager through your hosting account. ;)
Ok, I have the banner on now. I replaced the logo file on my pc and just uploaded a new copy of the theme. Then i altered that text you told me to. Thanks! :D
That wasn't so hard now was it? ;)
Nope haha.
I have another question. How do I change the smf icon in the website tab? Like facebook has that little F...
That is called a favicon. You will find it in your main directory and it is named favicon.ico. Just google favicon generator and you will find site that will allow you to create your own.
Once created, simply replace the current favicon.ico with the new one. Then refresh your browser. You may also need to clear your cookies in some cases. Keep in mind that it sometimes takes a while to take affect before you will see the new favicon appear.

clear your cache, clearing your cookies should have nothing to do with a favicon.

Would it really hurt to do so? I cant even count how many times one would not see the new favicon until they cleared their cache. Just trying to save a few steps that's all.
;)
that is the point, you said cookies ;) not cache.
Clearing the cookies have also come in handy in many cases. I am simply attempting to assist someone. No reason to overtly attempt to make me appear as if I am giving wrongful information. Move on please.
;)
check your information, cookies has nothing to do with the cache nor the favicon. many people would be upset to be logged out of all their websites just because they cleared their cookies yet the issue would still be present.
The cookies are essentially the browsers cache. I have gone through these steps over and over when a favicon is involved and it has worked every single time. I don't know of many who's day has been totally ruined simply because they had to re-log onto a website. I am not going to argue with you over this.
@Crowtree. If you need any further assistance on this feel free to send me a PM. ;)
ARG,
While I admire your suggestion here and the help you are giving. If you are going to suggest something like clearing cookies, it's probably a good idea to let the user know it will log them out of everything. I remember once when I was a noob and didn't know how cookies worked. When someone suggested I clear my cookies it pissed me off when I found out I had to log back in to all my sites. Especially when I couldn't remember the password to a couple of them. :(
Anyway, cookies "shouldn't" have anything to do with the browser caching the favicon, but I've seen stranger things. :)
@Crowtree
CAUTION: Clearing the browser cookies WILL result in you being prematurely and unexpectedly logged out of your website!!!
If being temporarily logged out of your website results in causing too much stress in your personal life then I would strongly advise against clearing your browser cookies.
In no way did I purposely intend to force you into doing something that may be harmful to your emotional status.
I apologize sincerely for supplying you with complete and wrongful information. Please disregard any previous information that you may consider harmful or may appear as inaccurate.
:-\
@Crowtree don't mind ARG and his snarky comments even when they are in jest. Sounds like someone pee'd in his cheerio's this morning.
I don't mind. I'm just happy you're all helping. Can i not edit the Favicon in the style sheet?
no it is not in the css
Favicon's are automatically picked up by the browser and cached. If you want to replace the SMF one with yours, you simply need to delete the SMF file and replace it with your own favicon.ico file. Clear your browser cache and it should show the new one. The favicon.ico file is located in the root of the SMF folder where SSI.php is.
So thats a job for the site owner? Because im just an admin.
yes someone with ftp access would have to do it.
