Aplogies if this is on the wrong board - I wasn't quite sure what it came under.
I was reading on another thread about the favicon. I'd like to get one on my site but having difficulty locating the file to replace.
Could you tell me where to find it? I can't find anything with the name favicon.ico anywhere on my site (have used filezilla file search).
Is this because at the moment I just have an internet explorer logo showing for my site? So can I just upload my new favicon.ico and if I want it for the whole site, should I put it in my public_html directory rather than the forum directory?
I'd say put favicon.ico in both the root folder and the forum folder (even though I'd think the root folder would do it). Then put this URL in IE and if you don't see your favicon, control F5 the heck out of the URL:
http://sitedomain.com/favicon.ico
Changing sitedomain to whatever domain you have. Mind providing that? :)
Good advise mashby, depending on what is desired. But keep in mind that if it is placed in the forum folder (where your forum is contained) the favicon will show up as needed, on all pages of your forum site.
But in the root it will show up on all sites that may reside in the root, even sub-domains that may be intended as separate sites from the original forums.
;)
That is also sound advice. Put your favicon.ico where you want it to appear. But really, it's just a favicon. Why not just put it in every folder you have on your site? Depending on how you have your domain set up, it might make sense to do what you suggest ARG (subdomains are just nicely formatted folders on your domain). But really, the domain is king. One domain and one favicon seems to make sense to me, but what do I know. :)

Thank you for your replies :)
So it's as simple as just putting my favicon file in the root directory? I don't have to find something to replace.
Why should I be Ctrl-F5 - ing out if I don't see it?
EDIT: Ah - just keep refreshing until it eventually appears cos it can be a bit stubborn?
Yes, just put a favicon in the root...browser is sometimes "stubborn" :) .When the favicon is set at the first installation everything is ok (my experience). It is useful to delete the browser cache.
Yes they can indeed be stubborn. I have had cases where it took more than a few hours to take hold and appear. ;D
