What I'm trying to do is alter the look of the index.php page so that it just shows a list of categories with no post counts, redirect counts etc. Just some columns listing categories and then sub categories (the sub categories would link to an smf built category).
If not possible then I would like to alter the link that would normally take you to index.php to take you to index.html instead. This would need to happen in the breadcrumbs too.
I'm using the latest version of smf 2.0.1
This is because I have lots of child categories and I don't want the index page to show up 0 posts as its not encouraging to newcomers.
I do hope that makes sense. It's very hard to describe what I'm imagining!
Thank you

You can remove the post/topics counts in BoardIndex.template.php -
// Show some basic information about the number of posts, etc.
echo '
</td>
<td class="stats windowbg">
<!--p>', comma_format($board['posts']), ' ', $board['is_redirect'] ? $txt['redirects'] : $txt['posts'], ' <br />
', $board['is_redirect'] ? '' : comma_format($board['topics']) . ' ' . $txt['board_topics'], '
</p-->
</td>
Thank you for that. :)
Which bit would move the "x redirects" bit of text?
Is there anyway to get all the categories to then show in columns so that there isn't a big empty space?
I wish I could photograph the image in my head as I'mhopeless at explaining these things! :laugh:

Post a screenshot that shows what you want to do.
Well that's the problem, I don't have one because I can't do it! :laugh: I will mock one up.
I have however solved one problem, the removing redirect text: http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=344781.0
I will see how that works out because it may solve all problems without making too big a change to the site. :)
Sorry to have been a pain and thanks for your help.

This is my idea of fun.
...and learning all this coding is my kind of fun! :laugh:
