I went into my admin today and it says that I'm using an outdated version of SMF, which contains some bugs which have since been fixed. It is recommended that you update your forum to the latest version as soon as possible. It only takes a minute!
I have 1.1.15 now but when I click on the update your forum I get the error:
The package you are trying to download or install is either corrupt or not compatible with this version of SMF
This has never happened before when I updated to the next version. Any help would be appreciated.
do you have any version emulation mods installed? if so you need to reset the mod to the current version and try applying the patch again.
Same bug here.
No version mods and all other updates went fine.
Cheers!
well it installs fine on my 1.1.15 forum without issues so there is no reason for it to not install on your forum.

what's the matter?
PS: the same thing with download package
cheers
Two things to try:
1) Upload the file http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/downloads/smf_patch_1.0.22_1.1.16.tar.gz using FTP, into your Packages directory and go to Package Manager to apply it.
2) Dearchive the tar/gz file and rearchive it to a zip.
2) worked for me.
I have the same problem when I try to use the package manager to update from 1.1.15 to 1.1.16.
No mods installed.

I try your Nr2 with 7zip software but don't work for me... one questions... what compressor software are you used?
It failed for me also. Here is a zip if anybody wants to try it, but I get the same message.
I have smf forums on Windows and Linux servers. I upgraded the forums from 1.1.15 to 1.1.16 on the Linux servers with no problem. However, I am getting the compatibility error on Windows servers. I would think it has to be a compatibility issue between Windows and the patch in it's current format.
sorry you dont have permission to distribute the package, so i have removed it from your post.
sorry didn't know I needed it.
Actually, on this occasion, let's say "To Hell with it!"
Zip attached.
If anyone wants to give me any grief about it, let 'em. :)

That worked for me too.
But I did it a different way:
1. Download the file: http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/downloads/smf_patch_1.0.22_1.1.16.tar.gz to your Desktop.
2. Extract this file with WinRar or WinZip. 3 files will be extracted:
package-info.xml
smf_1-0-21_to_1-0-22_patch.mod
smf_1-1-15_to_1-1-16_patch.mod
3. Zip these three files into a new zip-file an name it "smf_patch_1.0.22_1.1.16.zip"
4. Upload/ftp the new generated zip-file "smf_patch_1.0.22_1.1.16.zip" into your packages folder on your smf-installation.
5. Login to the administrator area in your smf-forum and use the package manager to find and to install the "smf_patch_1.0.22_1.1.16" file.
6. Done :)
*Addition: 7zip seems not to work reliable with this files.*
That's the same way, really.
Still, as long as it works, who cares? :)
I have open the archive and there are 3 files.
- package-info.xml
- smf_1-0-21_to_1-0-22_patch.mod
- smf_1-1-15_to_1-1-16_patch.mod
Is correctc the .mod extension for the second and third file? should not be .xml?
cheers

Yes, that's correct.
The .xml file is telling the forum-software what to do with the .mod files.
The file
[email protected] attached worked fine.
I tried to do the same rearchiving with 7-zip and it didn't work. Not sure why it didn't work, don't have time to investigate any further.
not all zip software does the zip the same way, and your server has to be able to unzip it, so some zip software programs just dont work well with the zip software on linux servers.
7-zip and zip are totally different. 7-zip won't work, at all. No way, Jose.
Finally Solved!
Unzip the package, take the three files and create a zip file, but DO NOT USE 7ZIP software will not work. I used the win7 integrated compressor.
Then upload it as a package.

Don't think so, here are the only mods I have:
1. SMF 1.0.20 / 1.1.12 Update 1.0
2. notCaptcha 1.06.2
3. Stop Spammer 2.3.7
4. Aeva Media 1.1b
5. Stop Spammer 2.3.9
6. SMF 1.0.21 / 1.1.13 Update
7. SMF 1.1.15 Update 1.0
8. SMF 1.1.14 Update 1.0

I meant I used 7-Zip software to create the zip archive.
Anyway, maybe the official update package could be rearchived with some other software to make it work in all systems.
OK, I tried all the solutions by unzipping the file and zipping it back and tried to upload it to my package folder and it says "The package you tried to upload either is not a valid package or has become corrupted." I zipped it up using Winzip so there should be no problem. I also tried uploading it directly to the package folder via FTP and although it uploads, the package manager does not see it at all.
BTW, I have 6 different forums running the same 1.1.15 version and none of them will update.
try using the windows default compressing feature instead of a zip application
If you are playing with zipping the package manager upgrade, why not simply download the small update package that has been released? :) Will do just the same, all you need to do is run a PHP file.
Anyway,
please check if this problem is solved now. The server was having issues which are fixed now, give it a few minutes to recover and then try again. Thank you.

Hmm. Good idea. :)
It's funny that with all the previous upgrades everything worked perfectly by just clicking on the update link in the admin section but now we have to jump through hoops to do the same thing with this new upgrade. It seems to me that somehow SMF changed the way they compressed the file to make it like this.
I finally got it to work but I had to completely unistall my Winzip program which I've used for years and Always worked before and then compressed the files with Windows instead. Same computer, same forums, same servers. Really no valid reason for changing things up like you did I think.
Thanks for helping out though.
Thanks for helping, gnuzip works great too.
Question, though will the update package manager be addressed for this anytime?
I dont think this is a intentional thing ;)
And you can expect it to be solved.
3 choices:
- go through the hoops
- have patience and wait for the fix
- simply download the manual update package from our download page and use that instead... ;)
The automatic function is now working on my Windows based SMF installs. Try the auto update again, I think it should work this time.
I'm sure it wasn't intentional but it happened and it seems when someone has a problem, it's always our fault and a lot of times it is until you realize it was a problem then you say have patience while at the same time we are scrambling to fix things that don't need fixing. I hope you understand what I'm saying.
It's too close to Xmas time to worry about this and the problem seems to have been addressed so thank you and hope everyone has the best of holidays.

Only way that worked for me too so thank you. For some reason I couldn't suss out how to convert the original update file in .tar.gz format to .zip >:(
No grief from me!
Does the following tag.gz file work better?
Having same issue on the first two forums I tried where I previously had no such issue. Linux server. hoping this can be solved on the SMF side so it works like past updates have.
Also should mention the second forum I tried has no mods installed (aside from previous SMF updates).
Tried suggestions said in here but still no success
Now I get this
QuoteDatabase Error

Any ideas?

Sorry, that was a very silly answer you gave.

Many of that person's responses, in both threads, are useless and condescending. That's not really new in the SMF world, though.
Rather than debate that nonsense, though, I'll suggest the following fixes:
1. Looking up IP addresses under North America has not worked for months, perhaps years. Please fix ASAP. It's silly for this not to function for this long.
2. There is still no decent obstacle to spambots flooding the site with regs. This has been a problem for years. Again, it's silly for this to be a problem for this long. I know other people who have SMF forums, and they have the same problem. Please fix ASAP.
I'm sure there are other things, but those will suffice. Your response to this message should not be one of the following:
1. "This is free software."
2. "Learn PHP and create your own forum."
3. "We're trying our best."
In short, limit your response to solutions only. Being condescending and useless in return will only prompt similar responses.
Have a nice day. And remember, if you're a techie, you don't have to be nice to people. But it might help.
Back to the issue at hand:
It takes very little time to cut and paste the updated code into the proper places. It does take time to find the "array" section -- it's near the bottom of that file.
The other issues, though, such as non-functional IP searches for North America and the constant influx of bot registration, still need to be addressed. Those have gone on for years, and it's silly those problems are unresolved.
Same keeps happening to me and has never happened before. With all these people having the same problem, can't you guys fix the issue? Also, not everyone uses PC, how about some instructions for Mac users, as well as PC users, please/

I have no idea what made me think to try it, to be honest.
Call it a flash of inspiration. :)
I believe the tar/gz is being worked on and it's causing some scratching of heads, unfortunately. :(
Can you cut Illori a bit of slack, please?
This is just as frustrating, for us, as it is for you. :(
This is causing us some serious headaches and, as you might expect, post quantity is having to take presidence over quality, at the moment. :(
Just for the record .... I had the same issue with the error message on Linux server, running 1.15 and using the automated updating system failed with the error message about the archive being corrupt of incompatible but the zip that
[email protected] uploaded did the trick.
Thanks
[email protected] your assistance was far more helpful (and friendly) than the official support was.
Hope everyone has a great holiday!
there is no such thing as "official" support. and if someone cant duplicate the issue they give the advice they can, which is most likely [even confirmed by developers] it is a server side issue.
I had the same problem as everyone else. Except -- the first time I tried to install from the link in my Admin panel, my AVG AV caught two trojans trying to install themselves into my computer.
Everything I tried came up without good results including trying to unzip and rezip the files.
I finally downloaded the zip file from this thread, uploaded it successfully, and applied the mod.
Success!!
Thank you!
Pat

You know what the person means. Or I hope you do.
Oh, please. Can we stop this sniping?
A) It's Christmas.
B) Everybody has different ways of doing things. Just because others don't do things your way, that doesn't make their way wrong.
Can we get a bit of the Christmas spirit going, please?
Pretty please?

You don't have to. Others say the zip solution worked. For me, once I saw there was very little code to update, I just did some copying and pasting. Not very efficient, but when the provided update doesn't work and the early responses are not all that helpful, it was time for Plan C.
That definitely works better than insisting repeatedly it has to be user error or a server problem. Others' results might vary.
Just remember: Techies don't have to be nice. But it probably helps if they are.

I finally found K's zip file and it installed fine on my linux box forum
To save others some time, it's in reply #13
Funny thing is, the 1.1.15 update was a tar.gz on the linux box and it installed fine
The tar.gz had no problems on my windows box forum, so that one went just fine.
For obvious reasons, this topic has been locked.
How sad it is, that people who are trying to help, are being vilified in this way...
