What theme are you using?
And can you attach a copy of the index.css file in your next post, please?
It's in the Themes/(your theme)/css directory on your server :)
im using theme flagrantly_20g for my site mobileraja.in... just want to put footer links below the white area in my site...

Try adding a height attribute to the footer copyright block in index.css. Adjust it as necessary. You currently have too many copyrights to fit in the space allowed.

Now that i take a better look at it you could try changing the padding in indsex.css.
Find:
#footerarea {
color: #222222;
font-family: Verdana,Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;
line-height: 130%;
padding: 15px;
text-align: center;
}
change to:
#footerarea {
color: #222222;
font-family: Verdana,Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;
line-height: 130%;
padding: 80px;
text-align: center;
}
Adjust the 80px until you get it where you want it. ;)
