this is just my opinion....
if your looking for a great chatroom software...X7 chat is it
too many options to list....full admin interface.... unlimited rooms/users.....A MUST HAVE!! for all smf users.
i installed it the other day... and i'll tell you what,,,,,it's been a loooooooong time since i have been this impressed with a script !!!.....
installation is a snap (just make sure that the chat folder is in your smf root directory!!)
the installation process detects everything that is needed for the install/total integration with your smf forum :)

enjoy....
yeah i m using it on one my college site
its workd gr8
but the interface is hard to change
not as easy as smf...:)
but no doubt...its good thing to have
i forgot to ad that, you can also use it as a live help system....all the options for the live help system are in the admin cp.
I originally used x7 chat... but then I started using Flashchat.
I still like X7, but IMNSHO, FlashChat is better. :)
CK, does x7 automatically recognise/use SMF membergroups, or do you have to create a new set for determining access?
I like that it has password protected rooms. Something missing from Flashchat last time I looked
nope... Flashchat has password protected rooms and even private rooms... has since v4.0 came out

no.... you need to create usergroups for the chat, then add your maderators to their designated groups.....the member list is also "empty" ....but....when a member goes inside the chat for the first time, it recognizes them and automattically adds them to the memberlist for the chatrooms.....other than that....everything else is automated by the script..
when i´m logged in in smf and when i enter the chat why am i not logged in chat ??
i included in the template and it dont work.. header error or something

Hello, I need more information on this.
1) Will the installation mess with other files in my SMF directory or is it integrated as a stand-alone script? (Kind of confusing but..)
2) I understand what you explained in Reply #6 that membergroups need to be created manually in X7 Chat (?) but do members in my forum require to signup for X7 Chat membership separately (on my site)?
Thanks for the info!! :)
I have used flashchat myself. Very easy to use and integrate.
;)
I use Flashchat AND X7 chat on my site, as some of our members can't use flashchat as their computers are ancient.
A caution though, if you are using 1.1 (RC1 or RC2) you need to download a different smf.php to go in your lib/auth folder as the one that comes with is for logins on SMF 1.0.5 which apparantly uses a different log in system to 1.1, if you don't do this you just wont be able to log in with your SMF details if you are using 1.1. There is a solution to this in this thread http://x7chat.com/support_forum/index.php/topic,1832.0.html over on the X7 Chat support forum (which runs on SMF! :D).
Oh and make sure that you put X7 Chat inside it's own folder in your SMF folder, as otherwise you will stuff up your forum.
LainaaX7 Chat will automatically detect SMF and configure itself to use the same
database as SMF. If you are an experienced user you may configure X7 Chat to
use a different database during installation. Creating a database beforehand
is not necessary.
Does this mean X7 Chat will add/modify things in SMF database? If so upon uninstallation of X7 Chat software will it leave anything behind in SMF database? ???
No, basically what it does, is grabs the user data from your smf_users table.
