I have to admit, I'm really excited about this theme.  I love themes that change the whole look of your typical message board layout.

Though, I'm only on 1.05 :( but you did say you would have something for us.

Very unique.  A few things:

404 http://fomcolians.com/demo/Themes/WindowsXP/images/Xperience/leftbox_bu.gif
Calendar is spelled wrong (Calender.)
Clicking the task bar should (ideally) collapse the start menu.
You should add a notice to the effect that the Windows XP graphical elements are the property of whoever, etc., etc.  You may need to ask for permission, I'm not sure.
The time action is very interesting, although the clock doesn't work for me.  The page also has no title.
I'm interested to see what you do with the stats page.
The red X needs to be aligned right?
Can't wait to see the profile done (unless it already is?)
For search, I'd suggest separating the board selection to the right, so it collapses down... then the left side can be much thinner.

and there are 2 same backgrounds showing. bliss is showing twice.
look at it;

if you think to release it as a theme, i would be a translator for turkish language if you like.
all of us are looking forward to it.
(but still not sure about the copyrights  ::) )

Looks great already. :)

If you can, it would be awesome to have all pages similar in look, like the profile page for example. Very innovative use of the elements though. The "startmenu" is impressive. :)

Fantastic job! You expect themes like this to come from Bloc or A.M.A, so it's really cool when someone new has a good crack at the theming system.

fixed

QuoteClicking the task bar should (ideally) collapse the start menu.
that will be a javascript modification and i am bad at these...all the drop downs i made are from collapse header script u provided with smf...so now if u can direct me how can i do that it will be gr8...i have seen this thing done with message icons here....might be even more cooler if clicking any where outside the menu collapse it.

QuoteYou should add a notice to the effect that the Windows XP graphical elements are the property of whoever, etc., etc.  You may need to ask for permission, I'm not sure
i hav mailed them twice abt this but i think they are busy sorta persons fixing bugs all the times :P
i think i will remove the logo out and will add stuff into copyright...thats the max i can do.

QuoteI'm interested to see what you do with the stats page.
Can't wait to see the profile done (unless it already is?)
i was stuck with ideas but will try to do some thing.

QuoteFor search, I'd suggest separating the board selection to the right, so it collapses down... then the left side can be much thinner.
that looked okey in IE but yes it must work good in ff as well...will do it.

@ Tripp, tentronik, sloopz , Aäron, Bloc , giba_choo  thanks for gr8 comments

I just imagine this concept could basicly used for any theme of any operating system it`s possible.

I really liek to see e.g. AMIGA or DOS any linux even bsd or unix could be done.
To have a command prompt you could use a small flash with prepared querys(cmd`s) for SMF.
e.g. DOS
c:\help (SMF help)
c:\dir (boardindex?)
c:\copy (quote?)

Cheers

Its a nice idea but I don't think it would be too user friendly.  Not everyone is a computer geek.  I think it would drive users away from the site.

Very nice.  I would change the color of your hyperlinks in the footer.  They blend in with the background so you can't see them.  White with an underline would look nice.

Is there any particular reason why if I click on the board's name (General Discussion, Big Board, How To, etc) I get to view the board and read the topics, but if I click on the image for that board (the hard drive, the folder) I get the message I have to log in?  Looks like permissions aren't set up properly.

The image links you to unread posts in that board (SMF 1.1 feature), so as you are a guest, it doesn't track what topics you have read so you can't access the section. This is how it would work for any SMF 1.1 theme.

- added and admin option to show messages either as icons (grid view) or normal as linear---------> see demo for icons
- Desktop feature... add any amount of html behind main forum--------> demo
- Better login screen...now doesnt contain surrounding forum window--------> demo
- Errors are corrected..left with one, hopefully bloc will be correcting that now :)
- Media center added with WM player look
- stats page done  :-\

its still not language friendly...some of images, i never thought of linking in from language directory :)
some of pages are still left as is...still require code cleaning and validations...will do this next week
but now i am tired  :)...
will release tomorrow...plus will give psd files

working for 1.0.5 now

One little thing I noticed...within your general discussion, where you have it look like text files icons.  There is no space between "by" and the username.  So for example it will say "Started bytest1" instead of "Started by test1"

One little thing I noticed...within your general discussion, where you have it look like text files icons.  There is no space between "by" and the username.  So for example it will say "Started bytest1" instead of "Started by test1"

fixed in download pakage

Why is there a music option in the menu? I don't have a music mod installed.

Found the option that turns it on. It's called "Show the messages in grid view" and it's in the current theme's settings in the admin center when you are in that theme.

well, as you see, the errors are related with the theme and i have no other themes and no mods installed and smf is new, gives the errors only when i activate the theme.

something wrong with grid view:  when i DEACTIVATE the grid view for threads, they show in grids.. when i ACTIVATE "show messages in grid view"  then it viewed as txt files. i think a very little code mistake :)

my suggestions are still alive.. lol
if you can make the windows movable, that would be great and start menu should collapse when we mouse click on anywhere of the forum out of start menu.. (wouldnt be really good? )

also background problem is still the same. (blue empty band at the right side)

note: i know we want too much things :D

It would look better if the you on quick links had the 1st letter captalized to make it fit in

Found a little tiny error,user online arrow image is set to /Themes/WindowsXP_1_1b3/images/Xperience/leftbox_bu.gif
When it should be /Themes/WindowsXP_1_1b3/images/xperience/leftbox_bu.gif

Fixed the error

Go into boardindex.template.php & search for leftbox_bu & you'll find a capital x

I just thought of something that would make this theme even better. Make a special menu action that causes a blue screen of death. ;D

Edit: Or better yet, make an option in the users profile and in the admin center that allows it so when it's on you can have the blue screen of death popup after certain periods of time of use.

To make it so that the language strings for the theme settings show up properly in other themes:

Copy languages/xperience.english.php to Themes/default/languages

Modify Settings.template.php as follows:

Find
function template_options()
{
global $context, $settings, $options, $scripturl, $txt;

Add after that
loadLanguage('xperience');

Find
function template_settings()
{
global $context, $settings, $options, $scripturl, $txt;

Add after that
loadLanguage('xperience');

http://smf.oldiesmann.us/index.php?theme=26 (yes, I've already got 26 themes on that board :P)

from Oldiesmann modification above i figured its xperience.eng.php that is the problem...well if i got that right...i think its better to simply remove it ...
try this one and see if errors occur,
just moved all language strings to settings.eng.php, thats the only thing i could figure out... i couldn't test it since i have no errors in my log to check for :-\...

grid was for icons (grid view) (linear view) errr...oky i think i got that wrong  :P
changed to
"Show the messages as icons"

i found a drag script but i wont work for FF...searching for more
i will ask unknown abt that menu collapsing thing...but 1st i think its error thing to get rid of  :)

God, I cant wait to see this on 1.0.5.  I have it on my test 1.1 beta site, but my main site is 1.0.5 cause it has so many packages, etc.  Im about to pee my pants.  Hurry!  If you make it within 1 week, I'll paypal you $20.00

no need for that  :)...will get back today if things go fine for me i will give 1.0.5 at this same time tomorrow...i dont think it will take more than few hours.

I just thought of something that would make this theme even better. Make a special menu action that causes a blue screen of death. ;D

Edit: Or better yet, make an option in the users profile and in the admin center that allows it so when it's on you can have the blue screen of death popup after certain periods of time of use.

:D also why not make an error screen that pops up every 5/6 seconds telling users they are on something like windows  :P

Latest review for latest release;

Congrats, no errors in logs, no errors in usage :)
improved well
there are still some little things need to be corrected i think, like the background thingy.
when all the windows are closed by clicking the X on the top right corner, bliss background closes too (in firefox) and all the background comes up blue. ( no problemwith internet explorer)
this may cause violation of copyrights as copyright information is minimized too

i also wander why did you remove the half of the bliss and didnt put all the picture as background.

Wow, thanks for getting us 1.0.5.

One thing I have a question about...the alignment of the categories on the main page are not lining up right. Whenever I have an odd number of forums under a category, the alignment will be wrong, allowing the items in the left column to take up most of the room of the table and barely allowing any room for items in the right column.  This happens in both IE and Firefox no matter what resolution I am using.

Any thoughts on how I could fix this?

Ok, I have found a work around due to the alignment issues.

Going into the boardindex template, I changed columns from 2 to 3 and it fixed the look of it (though oddly it still retains only 2 columns).  That's good enough for me.

One minor minor thing...in the admin section of where you can alter template settings...you mispelled the word character where you select the forum character.

glad thats over  :)
background is 1024 pix and will cause problems at high resolutions...i cant find a high resolution bliss pic...can u pm me one.

copyright violation...no its not... when main window is minimized what u can see? nothing except  background or 7/8 shouts...every thing is done in main forum window...all mods will come in there all custom actions if u make will go in there...so nothing can be done unless main window is displayed and copyright will come along with it.

use more css for circularing the stuff

Very excellent .

Think that it is more effective that target 1.1 release versions rather than to target 1.1 RC versions.
Because version up of SMF is gone so fast .

Perhaps, will not do site to operate actual fighting with RC version.

OK..  I have not read this whole thread, but I thought I'd make a few comments...

First of all, I love it.   You've done a great job on the feel/design.

now for the critique...

For some reason, the shoutbox seems to pop-up occasionally, even though I closed it. (?)

One other thing you might want to add for a real windows-like feel is "moveable windows"
There are a couple of scripts out there to do this (I was working with them when I tried to do a graphical linux theme for mambo/smf combined...)

possible improvments:

moving around windows
option for where you want taskbar (bottum or top)

First of all, i'd like to say that this theme is the awesomest thing i've ever seen :D

Second, any news on that higher resolution Bliss pic? About 30% of my traffic is at 1280x1024. I'd love to give all the office workers the option to camouflage their time-wasting behaviour with your theme, but can't until this gets sorted.

Keep up the good work!

Tripp

The 1.0 Themes up to 1.0.4 all work on above versions as theme updates stopped on 1.0 series.

So in short 1.0.5 themes will work on later versions.

Sorry, but it appears as everyone has been patient.  The author of this theme has said that they would be working on getting 1.1 RC 2  ready and if you go back on this thread and view the date that they said this, you will see it was January 2006.

It is now June 2006, so we have been patient for 6 months.   I have been awaiting the release of the 1.1 RC 2  version of this theme anxiously like everyone else.   But 6 months!   That is way to long.

By the time that the 1.1 RC2 version is released, there will be a new SMF version.  Also, this theme looks like it is quite popular, so I'm sure that there are many others that, like me, are waiting for the revision.

Isn't there anyone out there that has PHP coding skills that could take a look at this and get it 1.1 RC2 compatible?

[EDITED POST]
I just took a look at the author's Profile on this forum, and he hasn't been active on this forum since Feb 2006.    So it looks like we might be on our own with getting this theme 1.1 RC 2 compatible.  If I knew PHP, I would do it in a second.  Please, there has to be someone out there that has this kind of knowledge and could help us out.

This theme is awesome looking. It seems to be the ultimate in "no really, I'm working, this is just XP, I'm not surfing forums again!" However, I'm currently running RC2 so hopefully the conversion can be made by the OP.

Very cool theme.. very cool.  8)

I agree.

Like I said, there is no question that there is demand for this update.   What troubles me, is this...when you view the author's profile on this forum:

(http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/5859/xpthemeauthor4jl.jpg)

So, he hasn't been on here in 4-5 months.  As time goes by, It just seems less and less likely that he will be the one that will be supplying us with this revision.

That is why I am pleading to anyone who has PHP knowledge to lend a hand and help get this theme updated to 1.1 RC2.  Surely there is someone out there that can do this...

I'm using 1.0.7 and love the theme.

However, I tried installing the latest version of Ultimate Shoutbox (1.37) and I get the same message as above "Your session timed out while posting. Go back and try again".

The shoutbox appears almost normal in the template but there is no box to type anything in.  When taking you to the shout.template.php file...there is a box to "shout" to, but that's when you get the error.

Anyone fixed this yet?

Ok, the issues with the Shoutbox are definately with the theme itself.  I'm fairly confident it has something to do with the session settings with this theme. I do not know PHP. The shoutbox has it's own section in this theme and the changes probably aren't compabitle anymore with either 1.0.7/1.1 RC2 or with the latest version of the module itself.

Anyone have any ideas?

I normally wouldn't port anything without permission but I don't see any possible way of contacting 061, and he did state that it is open to use and modify as long as it is done for SMF, so I decided to port it.
