Hi,
I originally asked this question in an existing thread, but it related to SMF1, and received no replies anyway.

Contrary to what has been implied in other threads, setting a limit on outboxes does not imply that the sender does not have control of over their messages. Neither is it a pointless or useless exercise. If the sender deletes a PM, the (single instance of the) PM (in the database) will still persist if the recipient does not also delete their copy. Of course, I understand this, and this makes sense.
Like inboxes, there should be a limit on the size of outboxes. If the recipient deletes their copy of a PM, it will, of course, persist in the database until deleted by the sender too. This is exactly analogous with the sender first deleting the PM from their outbox - it will not be removed from the database until the recipients(s) also delete the PM from their inboxes. The only difference is the order in which the PM is purged from individual boxes: the sender's outbox and then the recipient's inbox; the recipient's inbox and then the sender's outbox. In either case, the individual PM is purged from the database only after both operations are carried out.
Anyway, I need to implement a fix so that members are similarly limited in the size of their outboxes. Anything else makes no sense. As things stand, although members are restricted in the size of their inbox, most messages persist because member outboxes are not similarly restricted/purged.
Any thoughts of how I would extend the PM limit to both in and out boxes. Ideally, I'd be able to set these limits individually, but I imagine it would be easier to have a single limit apply to both boxes, and not total up between the boxes either - this would be a good enough and satisfactory solution.
Thanks.
As far as i know there is no such mod on the mod site, that's why i can move your topic in Mod Requests (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?board=79.0) Board,if you want
Hi Kermit,
If you would move the thread the Mod Requests board, it would be appreciated.
Thanks.
