Title: Email notification links don't go to proper post
Post by: Old Philosopher on March 11, 2012, 11:46:22 PM
I'm a member of a board using SMF. Email notices of new posts to a subscribed thread are working, but when I click on the link provided in the email, I'm taken to the top of the thread, NOT the first unread post.
Is this a problem on my end, or is it something in the configuration of the Forum I'm calling.
Help would be appreciated. The SysOp of the Forum is at a loss as to why this is happening, also.
Thanks in advance!

Can you give us a link to the forum you're having problems with?

It's www.bladesandbushcraft.com
Does mine sound like a common issue?

If there is a #new tag at the end of the link in that notification mail,it should theoretically bring you to the newest unread post

The links from email behave the same way here, as they do on the other SMF board.
There is the #new tag on the end of the link in email, but it's stripped off when it gets to the board. If I manually add the #new in my address bar, it then takes me to the LAST message in the thread, not MY first unread post.
The main reason I joined here was to see if this SMF board would act the same as the other one, and it does. So the issue has something to do with MY configurations. I've used both IE v8, and Firefox, but switching browsers is not the answer. I'm beginning to think it's Win Live Mail being stupid.

That's definitely a possibility. You should try using a different email and and different email client just to see if that is the case.

I think I can do that without having to uninstall/install anything. I'll try accessing the board through my gmail account. I'm just at a loss as to why it only happens with SMF format boards?

What does that mean? Do they work for you, or not?

Thanks.
I'd sure like to know why I have this pointers through email issue only with SMF boards, though.
