Title: SMF is too engaging
Post by: mimmi7 on April 23, 2012, 01:48:25 PM
Okay so my forum is becoming a bot of a failure. Yes it does have 25,000 posts in 2 weeks, 225,000 pageviews etc but it's not generating income at all. Every one of the guests are registering and no one sees the ads  >:( I don't even have anything asking guests to register but everyone registers and i get nothing

Number one, you cant expect any "community forum" to generate income. It's simply not that easy. Number two, there are a few mods that you can install to help curve auto bots and spammers from registering. You can also configure Verification questions in the admin section to deter those that are registering for no good reason.
Nothing is 100% but adding verification questions alone usually helps.

;)

25,000 posts in two weeks is great....as long as they are not spam bots.

I have a list of some ad networks that I use to help

There are many options to generate income from ads, sponsorships, paid subscriptions etc

Im not really worried that much about spam. Had fewer than 100 spam messages so far. But i'll definitely do that.

I just don't like how everyone registers lol

Install two ad MODS. Always keep one ad at LEAST in the header or after the last post or in between posts. Then scatter a bunch around in IN posts for those Not registered.

Or, just let the ads be visible to registered members. If they are THAT active, a few ads will not deter them.

I turned all ads on for my forum and told my members I was just testing a things with Adsense, they said to leave them on and that they didnt care. Most of them have Ad Blockers and didnt even know there were ads?!!
