Hi, after upgrade to 2.0.2 i noticed that
1. wysiwyg editor is not working anymore. I click con the button to change the editor but nothing happens.
2. when using quote on quick reply, it shows me (loading...) but nothing happens
3. no shout box is working (i've tried ajax chat, smfpacks etc..)...
:-\
Just to note that this is, also, being discussed here:
http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=480509.msg3363257#msg3363257
tnx, i forgot that. i'd like to speak here, 'cause here there are all the bugs i found...and yes, i've tried a lot of versions of ajaxchat. Now i fear there's something that doesn't work in the main forum, but i don't know what. I tried using large upgrade but nothing happened (without scripts).
OK. You're saying all this, thinking that we'll know what you mean.
Now, it may be me... But, can you clarify some things, for me?
When you say "I tried using large upgrade but nothing happened (without scripts).", what do you mean, exactly?
The upgrade didn't work?
If not, what DID happen? Did you get errors, or what?
When you say "Now i fear there's something that doesn't work in the main forum, but i don't know what.", what makes you think that something doesn't work?
You used the large upgrade. What version of SMF did you upgrade FROM?
ok sorry for my english.
i had the 2.0.1 version of smf, with some packages installed.
i used large upgrade to upgrade the forum to 2.0.2. the i reinstalled the packages.
From here, i noticed these problems. i tried to reinstall using large upgrade to 2.0.2 another time. I upgraded the db with upgrade.php, then i had the forum updated for the second time to 2.0.2. This time i didn't install any package, but the problem still persisted (i tried to make a post with an image, and i saw the img tags. I opened another post, i used the button to convert to wysiwyg and tried to insert and image, having the tag img another time instead of the image on the screen).
tnx in advance.
This is where I hope you read my sig, before doing the upgrade...
To go from v2.0.1 to v 2.0.2, you only needed the small upgrade. I don't think that upgrade touches the database.
If you have that backup, it might be easy.
Restore the backup.
Then, get this: http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/downloads/smf_patch_2.0.2.tar.gz
Upload it to Package Manager and apply it, just as you would do with a mod.
If you didn't backup, we'll have to take another route...
K@
for first tnx a lot for your help
i used packages and modifications, and so i used large upgrade. I use smf since 1.1 etc...and i always used this method, and always went ok.
What do u mean for backup? is there any backup that i can do with smf?
Actually, i have the smf 2.0.2 with packages installed.
QuoteWhatever anybody else might tell you, backing-up is the most important thing you can ever do with SMF or any website.
http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Backup
When updating from v2.0.1 to 2.0.2, there are no modifications made to the database. So, there's no need to use the large upgrade, at all. If you'd done that, your mods would, most probably, still work!
Tell you what I would do, if that was my forum...
I'd BACKUP, first. (Just in case)
Then, I'd get the SMF v2.0.2 FULL install archive. http://download.simplemachines.org/index.php?thanks;filename=smf_2-0-2_install.zip
I'd dearchive it, on my computer.
I'd upload all of the files,
EXCEPT Settings.php AND Install.php, overwriting what you have, there, now.
Then, your forum will be as-new, pretty-well, with all of your members/posts, etc. intact.
Then, you can start installing mods/themes/etc.
That's what I'd do, if I was in your situation. :)
tnx a lot, i'll do that and i'll let you know what will happen
tnx a lot for your help :)
A pleasure, matey! :)
Remember that backup thing, won't you? ;)
for backup u mean to backup all the content of my ftp in local pc? if so, i didn't :(
You can do it via FTP or from your CPanel.
The most important thing to save is the database. That's where all your members/posts/etc. are stored.
But, backing-up the forum, itself, can save you a LOT of work, in the future. :)
all was made...wysiwyg not working anymore :(
and with quick reply it goes on loading forever :(
Seriously, mate. The WYSIWYG editor's crap. It's AWFUL! It's going to be replaced in the next version of SMF.
Disable it.
That'll put the Quick Reply right, too. :)
ok but even if disable wysiwyg i have the following bugs
1. shoutbox not writing phrases
2. quick quote goes loading forever
i fear this is linked to the problem of wysiwyg :(
Which shoutbox do you use? The Ajax one?
Have a look through it's support topic, to see if anyone else has had this problem?
noone had this problem
i think it's linked to wysiwyg one.
even if i use smfpack shout box or ajax chat, they both don't work.
and quote on quick reply still persists.
I disabled the shoutbox and it's still very slow.
Why have two shoutboxes, though? That'll slow things down, a lot!
i inserted two shout box because with nneonneo one we can speak, with the second we can try :)
I REALLY don't think that's a good idea. They'll be competing for resources.
Maybe that's why the place is so slow.
It's fast, now, is it not? :)
i know it, but we cannot communicate at real time without a shout box.
note that now that shouboxes are not installed anymore, the forum goes well...the problems still persist :(
i mean the problems in shout box not writing, wysiwyg not working, quote on quick reply not working. the problem was not the slow server (i knew it was due to two shout boxes at the same time).
I disabled WYSIWYG, to see if that made the quote work.
That quote hanging has got to be due to one of those mods, I believe.
Try uninstalling mods and see if it comes back.
If we can narrow-down which mod it is, we can try to figure-out a fix.
where can i download the shout box for latest version of simple portal?

Nope k@. I made a clean installation, then tried WITHOUT packages, the result was the same.
Weird. This has happened a few times, that I remember. Maybe a search would reveal something?
It's part of the portal. It's not a separate mod. :)
ok i',ve just installed the shout box as a block, but it doesn't refresh until i reload the page. Plz try.
Even this shout box reloads forever....now i'm sure something is wrong in the entire forum...but i dunno what :(
It won't.
Shoutboxes that run in real time EAT resources. They'll slow your forum down. A LOT!
ok but it doesn't reload. this is the problem
try yourself.
It does if you refresh the page.
ok but it's not the feature of this shout box. Try the one in simple portal webpage.
Yeah, I know. I have it on my site, too.
I have a small hunch... Try getting on to your host, can you?
Ask them if they have mod_security enabled, would you?
If they have, get them to disable it.
ok i'll let u know
in the mean while, tnx for having lost time with my problem, i appreciate :)
Any time! :)
mod_security is disabled and nothing works....i fear it's an error in javascript.
Here is the java in my server
java version "1.6.0_26"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_26-b03)
Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (build 20.1-b02, mixed mode)
questo giro sul server
plz help me :(
The quote not working in quick reply with the wysiwyg mod is an issue with the mod itself I believe, i'm getting the same issue with it on my forum but only with Google chrome, it works fine with IE and Mozilla.
Also if you click in the quick reply box first and then try to quote a post it should work.
which package are u referring?
In earlier versions of SMF, the WYSIWYG editor was a mod.
I think Gaz may be confused. ;)
I'm just going out, as it happens, because it's my birthday.
Ask your host about the java thing. It may be out of date. But, I'm not sure about that.
I'll check back, here, when I get home. :)
Ok k@.
In the meanwhile up
Please, quit with this "Up" thing. We'll help as soon as we can. Bumping things won't speed things up. People have to sleep and eat, you know. ;)
Besides, you haven't answered the java question.

I just tried to log into your forum, to check the error-logs. Seems I can no longer log in. :(
Can you check those and see what errors there are, if any?
You might want to look at the server logs, too.
Re Java from the earlier posts, that's Java, not JavaScript. Java itself is not used anywhere in SMF.
In your browser, there should be an option to see about any JavaScript errors, though, and that will be useful to know.
By the way, are your .htaccess files the standard ones? Or, have you modified any of them?
to all:
the htaccess files are not modified.
i use chrome, how to see javascript files?
K@, sorry i pushed a backup of db, in wich the user was not created, if u need it i'll create it again.
No, it's fine.
You can find those errors easily enough, in Forum Maintenance.
The others, you can get from your site's CPanel, probably. If not, ask your host.
Uh, K@, JavaScript errors are totally in the browser, not anywhere else.
In Chrome, press F12 to bring up the dev panel, you should see a little number in the bottom right corner with a red cross by it, click on it to see the errors.
Yeah, I know that. (It scared me, too!).
I was thinking of ANY errors which might throw some light on this.
We may have something... :)
QuoteThe problem is that they have some javascript inserted into the very top of their page. When a page is rendered there should not be any other javascript or HTML before the <!DOCTYPE tag. You can see that they have some javascript before it if you view the source on their page. They need to move that code at least after the <head> tag.
AFTER having tried for 3 days (tnx to all, especially to k@), i found the problem.
The problem is in this mod
http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=2833
that blocks javascript on 2.0.2.
It's very insidious, because, after installed, even if u rewrite the entire forum, the problem persists.
u must REMOVE this for having the forum work. i think it's related to the install.php (and remove.php) files, but i didn't read the code, so i dunno what these files do.
How weird!
Oh, well, as long as you got it sorted, all's good! :)
:)
