Title: creating forum for weebly website
Post by: creative13 on October 25, 2012, 02:25:23 AM
I apologize in advanced if this is not in the correct spot or I this question has already been answered. I have tried searching for the answer to no avail.

I have a weebly website and currently have a tal.ki forum on it. I am looking for a better forum to run on my website and weebly says that I can use any embedible forum. I am a member of a few forums that use SMF and like the functionality of it. However, before going through the work of creating a forum, I was wondering if this is considered an embedible forum that I could use on my weebly website.

Thanks

Welcome to SMF,

I am not to sure what you mean by embedable forum, would you mind describing that term?

Welcome to SMF,

This is what it says on the weebly website about creating a forum:

"The built-in Weebly forum is provided by Tal.ki.  If you prefer to use another forum, you are welcome to do so as long as it's an embeddable forum.  Any such forum can be added to your site through the use of our Custom HTML Element.  If you're not sure if a forum is embeddable, just ask the forum provider."

I did create a coundown timer using the custom html element, you know when you copy and past the html coding after setting up the specifics on one of those free countdown timers. I'm no pro at this, but I would assume something similar...once I create the forum, is there a way to link it to my website via html coding? Unless you understand what they mean better.

The link to the weebly site where I got that quote is below incase that helps.

creative13,

I looked at the weebly hosting and I cant find some answers that are needed, firstly does your hosting have any of our supported databases, mySQL, etc.

I for the life of me cant find any of the stats for there hosting, and this is important.

Also do you have access to ftp?

Installing SMF (http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Installing)
SMF Requirements (http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Requirements)

These two links may help.

Thanks for the response. I basically copy and pasted your response and sent an e-mail to weebly support. Below is the response I got from them  :'(.

"You can edit your site with HTML, CSS, and Javascript; however, Weebly does not support building your site with server side languages, such as PHP or ASP, so it seems unlikely that the forum you specified would work. We also do not currently offer database access. This is not likely to change in the near future.

If you don't want to use our Tal.ki forum option. you are more than welcome to use a different forum like nabble.com with your site.

Thanks for your support!"

I guess for now I will have to stick with tal.ki until I upgrade to a better webhost. But for my smaller purposes I sure like free. Thanks for your help and hope to join SMF at some point in the not too distant future.
