Title: vDirectNotification
Post by: Valodim on September 21, 2005, 10:38:43 AM
Link to Mod (http://mods.simplemachines.org/index.php?mod=198)

This is a mod for advanced users, geeks, miranda-users, wannabe-omniscient admins and those who are willing to spend half an hour of their time to try this new and most comfortable way of getting forum notifies. :)

This mod allows the user to have an udp packet sent to a specified ip, the account's most recent ip, or a (dynamic) hostname, instead of a mail. Combined with NotifyAnything (http://miranda-im.org/download/details.php?action=viewfile&id=431), one of Miranda (http://miranda-im.org)'s most useful plugins, this provides instant onscreen notification.

for more information, see here (this is linked in one of the helptopics too, because it's too much to describe)
http://mugenguild.com/stuff/vDirectNotify.htm

here's a screenshot of the notification dialogue:

this is a beta and may contain bugs. enjoy anyways :P

What about 1.0.5 compatibility?

didn't test that. I'll add 1.1RC1 compatibility today, but I don't plan to make a version for 1.0.5... :-\

\\ edit

SMF1.1RC1 compatibility! :D

took a look at smf105 also, but the notification got quite some improvements (for example, choose which types of events to notify), guess you'll have to update :(

!!Error with Package Install

At least one error was encountered during a test installation of this package. It is strongly recommended that you do not continue with installation unless you know what you are doing, and have made a backup very recently. This error may be caused by a conflict between the package you're trying to install and another package you have already installed, an error in the package, a package which requires another package that you don't have installed yet, or a package designed for another version of SMF.

6. Execute Modification ./Sources/ManagePermissions.php Test failed

that's strange, worked for me. I'll try it again with a more fresh smf installation as soon as I have some spare time. :(

Causes of problems

- Conflicting mod
- Wrong smf
- I don't know

Most likely it's something minor, like one too many or one too few spaces someplace.

Also, if you're using the XML format for this mod, make sure you put the code to search for / add on its own line and that there are no extra spaces before the ]]>
