Title: How do I set up a TEST site
Post by: TeaTephi on June 05, 2013, 04:19:42 PM
I have downloaded my entire database and everything on the server to my computer, and I'd like to set up a test site, but I'm not sure how to do that.  Is there documentation on here that I can refer to?

Please help, thank you.

Just create a subfolder of your domain or a subdomain or even a different domain if you have a spare, then upload copies of the files from your live forum to that folder and import your database backup.  Run repair_settings  http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/What_is_repair_settings.php  and job's a good'un: one test site that's identical to your live one ready to start breaking to your heart's content  :)

so it's not possible to run a test site locally on your PC? I just want to browse my database on my own.  I'm quitting godaddy. >:(  too much down time!

BTW  thank you Chalk Cat!
