This is just a conversion of the default theme using png graphics instead of gif

That's a really original and weird approach, have you managed to decrease the sizes of the images?

It's ment to be a base foundation for creation of new themes that will only use png images :)
I understand, original indeed, I should go and create a bmp version before someone else does :P

i think the point was that .png images are editable...so this theme can start as a "base" for anyone that wants to create a new theme, because the images are editable..

Aren't GIF's editable?
yes...but not layered like pngs and psds are..
If the gif has a transparent background then I believe that It mustn't be that hard to create a layer :)

the problem with giff is that it has only a two bit transparency, it is fully transparent or not, png have 8-16 bits transparency. In a forum like this it will be possible to have graphics function om both dark and light background without bad borders.
Yep, thats right, I am in the middle of using some images on a dark version of a theme and the GIF's are giving me hard time :)

The best should be if SMF were using png as default for images
I think because of browser-compatibility that isn't an option for now...
and because png file sizes are like 576468 times biggerer.
Actually if well compressed png's are smaller than gif's ;)
