Title: phpbb to SMF
Post by: davidjtsteele on August 15, 2013, 07:17:44 PM
Hi everyone,

I'm thinking about creating host my forum on another server and want to migrate from phpbb to SMF. What I want to know is whether the databases are compatible. Ie, when migrating, you can keep everything current Board have?

Thank you.

Any tips on how to do this? It uses some software, SMF does this or ...
Is that going to have to pay for the database and did not want to spend money in vain.

SMF offers a converter to change the database from phpBB to SMF format. It is a separate free package and not included with the base free SMF installation. All the information you need is given in the referenced links. If your concern is that you'll have to pay to ransom your database from the clutches of whoever has possession of it right now, we can't help you with that.

I presume that the converter also takes care of attachment filename hashing, etc. Any contrary readings on that?
