How to show last poster avatar next to text in last_post div?

Just for fun; I just tested that code for 2.1 to see if it would work. I was able to get the last post avatar to show on the board index, but so much of the message.template.php code has been changed from 2.0-2.1 that I wasn't able to get that to work on the message index.
It also fills up the error logs, as well as gives a "Parse error: syntax error" when going into the miscellaneous of the modification settings in the admin panel (although that could just be my fault depending on whether or not I put the code in the right place in manage settings.)
Hopefully phantomm or someone else will be able to release a mod for this when 2.1 does become stable.
