Yes but is that going to be out this year, we were told it would be faster then the years it too for 2.x.x but it hasn't been the case

It could be. Beta 1 has already been released for testing by the general public. So long as development remains steady, and beta testers keep testing and reporting their findings, SMF 2.1
could be final by year's end. However, there are no guarantees.
