Title: phpBB -> SMF
Post by: phantom on January 28, 2004, 02:43:38 AM
Hi there!

I just "bought" my charter membership to support the further development of SMF.
I wonder if there is any convertor for phpBB2 boards yet?

And if not - since my charter membership isn't active yet - how complicated would it be to convert the db "by hand"?

There's a convertor, don't worry.  Search for it once you get the Charter Member status.

I'm sorry, I couldn't find the convertor anywhere.  :-[

Search for "phpBB" with the search tool (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?action=search).

Message number 12 there...

The link only gets me to an error page:

"The topic or board you are looking for appears to either be missing or off limits to you."

Wrong board Jeff Lewis :P.

I know it's posted somewhere... but, if you post a topic in the Charter Members boards I'll just reattach it ;).

I'm going to put them on the download page after I have looked over them - they are still beta as well, and right now I (and the rest of the support team) am not prepared to answer support questions dealing with any of the converters.

Just checked, they're not there yet. Will keep an eye or two out for the phpBB to SMF conversion script/tool/whatever.

He will most likely post about it when he does put them on the download page. And sheesh it was only a few hours ago... like he really was able to go over all of them that fast! :P

well, I'm a newbie with this being my third post, so typically I have a lot of demands that need to be met yesterday and because I've obviously invested so much time, you need to respect my wishes and meet my expectations.

With all due respect, Lance, we JUST released this package two days ago, we're catching a few bugs here and there, and working on several different tangeants at the same time.  If you need immediate help, you may want to consider a Charter Membership, as those members do get individualized and focalized attention.

You speak about investing so much time into your site.  While I can understand and appreciate that, you also have to understand that we've invested more than 9 months into getting this project off the ground.  We have a LOT of people that we've got to support, and a small amount of people that are savvy enough to support the end users.

And a personal note from me... don't talk about deadlines, I'd be MORE than happy to give you all of MY deadlines and have you deal with them.  I'm quite sure that you'd be drowning within two hours.  ::chuckles::  For example:  Took over my third company this year, so far.  Have to get a paid membership site that I own not only upgraded with the new SMF software, but re-write a portion of my own CMS system that's completely integrated with YSE/SMF, work on two very demanding customer sites, tend to my daily help requests for my hosting customers, design customers, spend time on 10 boards that I have administrative duties for, help get my game server division off the ground, tend to new web hosting sales requests that come in daily.  All that, on top of spending time with my family, taking some "me" time, eatting, sleeping, etc.

Wanna trade?

Edit:  Okay, [Unknown] duly thwapped me, guess it's just the time of the night that I've posted this.  Didn't see the humor in your post, so any noodle smacks are welcome.

The trade offer is still there, though.  Hehehehe

Sorry, getting there.  You might try my YaBB SE -> phpBB converter, to at least get the posts over for testing - but the new one should convert more and better.
