The SMF project recently had its annual elections for the PM position.
After many years in the position (albeit with a short break) I have stepped down as Project Manager of the Simple Machines Forum project. I will continue to be involved with the project, providing support and what-have-you, but I don't feel that I have the time to commit to the PM role.
Suki - a long-time team member who has "worked" on the support team, the customization team and has been one of the key developers in the support of the 2.0.x branch and the ongoing development of the upcoming 2.1 branch - was elected as the Project Manager of SMF.
Suki is well respected by the team and the community in general. She has some great ideas and excellent goals - and, actually, will be the first active developer who has taken on the role of PM.
I look forward to seeing her lead the project into the next release and beyond.
Please join me in welcoming and congratulating the new Project Manager.

But what does this mean to the general public, to which this notice is targeted? Will anything change?

We have a dev now being PM, so either a decrease in PM duties or development (granted PM does not have as much control as you would think!)
Keep up the good work.

HI shambles.
Answering your concrete question, the pm role will not change, just the person behind it, as you know every person is different and has different styles, different ideas, different approaches etc.
Can't punctually say what's gonna change and I don't want people to think that things are going to dramatically change because that's simple not feasible. A new person in the pm role is a refreshment, a "change of batteries" if you want to put it that way.
I tend to focus on dev matters and this change will allow me to bring together both roles, pm and dev, making some process easier and less cumbersome for everyone involved.
Congrats Suki
To reiterate what others have already said; congrats Suki, and thank you for taking on the challenge. Thanks to kindred also for devoting so much time over the last few years as well.
You both are appreciated. :)

Hi all
First of all that you Kindred for you work over the last several years at SMF. Although I have not posted many times I still look at what's going on and have been busy with my project which you will all know about shortly.
I have chosen to use SMF forum for my upcoming project not just because its good but also because I got a good vibe about the close knit community involved in running it.
To Suki, congratulations and I hope you and the rest of the gang keep up the good work.
Henry

Project Manager = PM ?
Yes :).
Thanks. :)
Congrats......
Thanks & congrats to Kindred & Suki! What an excellent team here.
Two years ago, my favorite hobby website was shut down by its host provider due to CPU usage. Despite having little appropriate background, I volunteered to try to help. They were under siege by aggressive crawlers, had security issues, had DB issues, had codebase issues caused by mod installation/de-installation issues and were thus stuck on very old versions of mods & SMF.
With the SMF team's help - and also the help of brave SMF users sharing their lessons - all this has been addressed. Though traffic is up dramatically, CPU is consistently low & the error logs are squeaky clean.
Sorry for hijacking this thread, but it felt like the best place to say thanks and congrats to you all for such a fine product!
