Otsikko: [Possible Bug?] Mods can't view boards they are mod of..
Kirjoitti: Az - lokakuu 26, 2005, 12:57:34 IP
This is the structure of an 'administration category' i have made, that contains three boards:

1. Admin
This board is only accessable by the admin, can only be seen by the admin, no-one else

2. Global Mods
This board can be seen by admin and global mods only

3. Local Mods
This board can be seen by admins, global mods, and local moderators who have moderation over other boards elsewhere on the site. In order for the mods to be able to see it, I have made them all mods of that board.

However, in the local mods board, the mods cannot see any boards in the category, not even the one they are a mods of. The entire category is completely invisible to them. Is this a bug? I've changed board settings to global, checked permissions, etc. Unfortunately you can't give access to local mods on a board by board basis like you can with every other membergroup. But this shouldn't matter, if they are a mod of one board in an otherwise invisible category of three boards, they should at least be able to see that one board.

Any help? Is it a bug? I only assumed it was as there is no way I can find to fix the problem. I'm using the latest version by the way, SMF 1.1 RC1

its not a bug.
if you set someone a moderator in that board and if you dont let standard members join that board, moderator, who is the standard member, wont see that board.
because moderatorship is local and not global like gmods and admins. so they are standard members.

i think this should be changed thogh

Simple fix would enable admin to set per-board access to local mods, like they can with every other membergroup.

I too would like to see this fixed as I don't want all global mods on staff.  I need plain moderators. I would like  an Invisible  Board to communicate with my staff!!

Make a group which you then add your mods to, and then allow it to access that board,

Yes, Make a group, mabey if it was a site called KUJA, make the group called KUJA team...

And allow that group to view this certain board

mods are not really a group.
Well, more specifically, they are not a global group...  a user's status as a local  mod is not checked until they actually enter eahc board.

So, if you want them in a global group, then when you make them a locla mod, you should add them to a global group that you have set up to be the exact same as the standard members...   That way they will have normal member access everywhere, with mod access in their moderated boards, and you can add the group for access to specific boards...

It appears they can enter the boards, the thing is they can't see it on the main board index (despite making them a mod of that board). They can only access the board by following a link - shouldn't they be able to see it?
Thanks for your replies.

well, if their normal usergroup can not access the board, then, when the board listing is displayed in the boardindex, the board will not be listed.
Remember, they are not checked for "mod-hood" until they actually ENTER the board in question.
So, yes...  it will work exactly as you describe. If they link directly to the board in question, the system will see them enter the board, check their access against the global groups and then against the local mod list and if they have permission, allow them in.

If they view the board list from the index page, the system will check their access against the global groups, period.

Once again, this is not a bug...  this is how the system works.
