Title: Chatroom (not shoutbox) available?
Post by: elliatt on September 21, 2016, 02:01:31 PM
I'm running the latest (non-beta) SMF and have used SMF for a long time. UNder smf 1.x there were all sort of chat room options available - not shoutbox - but a chat room where members could hang out and have scheduled chats.

under SMF 2x I have found 0 chat room options.

Note, this is not a complaint and I am fully appreciate of the quality SMF and the available mods with many of them available for free. I admire the work that has been done.

Am I simply missing something or are there none available?

OK, thank you anyway - obviously chatrooms are not all that popular on SMF boards!

There are a few chats available on our mod site:  http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?action=search;type=24;approved=1

Have you tried any of those options?

side note... "latest" is never the correct version to mention -- especially because, since your post, there has been a version released. Please use the actual version numbers when specifying  version. :D

If you choose Freichat, there is a code edit you will want to do to keep anonymous or invisible members anonymous/invisible.  The last time I used that program, all members online on the forum showed up as online in the chat box.  That included the ones who had logged into the forum as Don't show others my online status.  Those members aren't happy about appearing in the online list in the chat program.

The SA chat feature does not show show those members as being online, so no edit needed for that one.

The edit needed to fix the problem at the time is found here- http://codologic.com/forum/index.php?u=/topic/1183/anonymous-users-appear-in-online-list

The owner of the program may have added a permanent fix by now.  Dunno.
