I have a forum version 2.0.14.
I found the custom board icons mod

However it doesnt show that its compatible with my version.
Can anybody tell me if this does actually work for the current version?
It should work most SMF mods for 2.0.x work on 2.0.14
you should really be asking this in the mods support topic so that those that use the mod can answer the question.
