Title: Switching to https?
Post by: lurkalot on June 11, 2017, 04:28:50 AM
Probably a dumb question, but I'll ask it anyway.

Is there a definitive idiots (step by step) guide to switch your SMF forum to https anywhere please?  Instead of trawling though loads of threads and getting different variants on how to do this.

Assuming you have your SLL certs installed and running.
1: How to use repair_settings.php to change to https.  Step by step.
2: What server / file changes to make to force the redirect, Step by step.
3: Anything else we should know in the process. Step by step.

Maybe https://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=553651.0 ?

Get your host to enable ssl.
repair_settings, just a one click job. Basically an 's' is added all over.
Enable Image Proxy.

I also suggest you test your SSL at https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/  I have seen many people setup their configuration poorly so always a good thing to test against.

Thanks.  I have a ssl cert enabled for all my sites, and get the repair settings stuff.  The part I don't get is how to force the https upon my users.  I have sent a ticket to my host for advice on the process. (he'll be pleased).  ;D
