I don't remember how was possible to have the option to click a title of a topic in the board view to modify it! :)
i use the "Edit All Message Titles" mod to change all post titles within a topic.
this may be of interest to you but i am not sure if this is what you want. i use it a lot though and it's one of my favorites !

Double click in the box where a title is in the list of topics.
Little known feature.

Tks, useful mod.
It's not what I was searching, but it's a nice feature ;)
Your third forum probably has some JavaScript that breaks it, or the theme doesn't support it. Hard to say without more information.

All the three forum are configured in the exact same way.
Where can I find if I did something wrong with Java?
java is not the same as javascript.
all the forums have the same themes as well as the same mods if any installed?

Yeps, I meant Javascript.
Not all the same, but this third forum hasn't mods that the others forum haven't.
So, what's different between this one and the other two?

I can't understand, this is the reason of my question :)
I meant, are there themes on this one that aren't on the other?
If you go to the default theme (Curve), do you still have the problem?

I just use Curve for all forums.
I remember that the option of click-to-modify was something not automatic working, but something I had to abilitate.
Maybe I remember bad.

Using curve, been trying to double-click everywhere :O) no luck, any more info on how to make this work ?
Assuming you don't have any JS issues or conflicts, going to the list of topics in a board and double clicking on the box where the topic title is will turn the title into a text box. Edit away and the click outside the box to save.
This has been a feature certainly since 2.0 and possibly even 1.1. I believe it still works in 2.1.

This only changes the title of the first post. the rest of the posts retain the unedited title.
That is correct... because every post has its own title
If we're talking about message index, doesn't work on my 2.0 test install.
Maybe it's my bug or something I can't understand :(

yes we are, double click on the area where the subject is and you should get a text box where you can edit the title.
Workaround : moving the topic to another board will give you the options of changing its title plus the titles of all posts in that topic. Once done, move the topic back to its original board. :)

Thing is, that could generate a lot of notifications if the topic has subscribers watching it.
Doesn't happen on any of my 2.0/2.1 installs in IE11 or FF56.
Interesting. Works on my regular forum with a multitude of mods but not on my test one. (Firefox)
As far as I remember, quick moderation must be enabled for this to work. Try setting quick moderation to checkboxes in your Look and Layout settings.
That might be it, I never go on an SMF where I don't change this settting. It's even useful for non moderators because then they can mark topics read in bulk without marking all read.

i have mine set to icons and it works without issue.
changed to none and the feature stops working, changed back to icons and it works again.
Works for me if set to checkboxes or icons. Doesn't make much sense to have this feature hidden in a profile setting. :P
Honestly I'd campaign for removing the choice and mandating checkboxes be on for everyone all the time but that's massively controversial and against the spirit of the project or something.

That's definitely it (checkboxes or icons). Thanks.

Agreed. Any reason for that?

Could have it on as default, at least. Need to check if it isn't already on 2.1, or I had to enable it...
Making it default to on is good. Then maybe that'll set the precedent that a sane default that almost no-one changes can be safely removed.
Works the same in 2.1.
