Hi there!
Our forum was working ok (in fact, it works ok! but it has errors?), yesterday I realized the space was empty, very odd...
So, checked a few thing and saw a big errorlog file, full of error like the followings.... I have searched the line mentioned, and added below each error report...

Any idea? whats wrong?

Maybe something changed on the php service?
Should I put a php.ini with error_reporting = E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE ?

I have changed from php 5.4 (no idea why was that selected...) to the 5.6 stable... will see what happens

Is it happening on the homepage or somewhere else? The error log should be telling you which URLs these are being triggered on.

Well, that's nothing we can fix, that implies either a bug in PHP itself or a misconfiguration of their build of it...

It's also not related to the errors you do have, and again, what URLs are in the error log for the errors you have?

Well, the errorlog do not informed anything else... just those lines (some of them shows the file and line, but not wich url generate it)

I'm curious as to what was the last change/patch/mod that went on ?

I think that you are on the right track about php.ini error logging because I assume that you are seeing those errors from PHP logs and not SMF, yes ? which is why i wanted to see the actual screenshot of what you are seeing.

As Arantor pointed out, they don't look like any SMF error log entries that we typically see.

Anyway... today I found like 2gb of coredumps, so that is like 90 dump files... it is like has no relation to the errorlog reports?
I think that the server guys changed something, decreasing the amount of php memory for example? (so they can handle more users in the same server?) And then every time something tries to use more it just crash and dump a file?

BTW, the latest mod installed...... are just smf updates, being the latest to 2.0.15... before this I had no coredumps.....maybe it is related? mmmm

core dumps strongly suggest that they did make a change as you didn't do anything yourself.

take it up with your host as they should have the skills and know what else has changed.

so put it back on them and find out what they did ... might as well see what they come up with.

i would not expect a high level software patch like .15 to cause such low level issues like core dumps but it can happen.

i spent another lifetime analysing memory dumps and if php probably has been compiled correctly, then look for memory issues (as you suspected) and even hardware faults.

keep us posted on what they say - they have other logs (like kernel logs etc.) to look at to see if it is a resource issue.

if PHP 5.4 and 5.6 both cause this then PHP is probably OK. still check php.ini and if you don't have one then address that.

i turn core dumps off myself ... the bus error is like a segmentation fault.

something is trying to address a memory location that is not physically available.

last resort, i would even ask for a reboot. i'm not a Linux admin by trade so i'm out of suggestions.

I see two different errors here, that may be related:
- The "warning: no loadable sections found in added symbol-file system-supplied DSO at 0x7fffb43f0000...", which is associated with a core dump
- The 'undefined index' issues

After searching a bit, these 'no loadable sections found' errors appear to have two causes:
- dbg module incompatibilities in builds (harmless but annoying)
- Running out of disk space resources

Most of the threads I read didn't think there was a lot to worry about here ("oh, that again..."), unless you were truly running out of disk space.

The 'undefined index' issues, especially since they appeared after upgrading to 2.0.15, suggest there may be an incompatibility between 2.0.15 & one of your mods. In my mind, Simple Spoiler stands out since some of the issues are specifically with that mod's code. (This incompatibility may be triggering the dbg activity? That's a guess...)

So... My next suggested steps would be:
(1) Talk to the host & make sure they confirm there are no resource/disk space issues
(2) BACKUP everything...
(3) Deinstall 2.0.15 and see if the issues go away
(4) Deinstall Simple Spoiler
(5) If all is good, reinstall 2.0.15

Did not work D-:
I have downgrade it to 2.0.14, but core dumps continue being created

Have contacted the hosting support, asking about any changes made by them, still waiting response

(I was thinking in add a command to delete them in a cron job!? jojo... if not I have to check over ftp every a few hours and delete them)

I can't see anything obvious in your error log snip there that would explain the dumps, I would hope your host should be able to make atleast an educated guess as to what is causing them on their server. Sometimes I have seen that happen when PHP hits timelimits while running some longer scripts, but usually those would leave an entry in the error log too.

Well, the hosting (hostgator) says that the problem is located in the script (smf)...

Well, until I find a real solution....... I have setup an hourly cronjob "find /home/username -name "core.[0-9]*" -type f -print | xargs rm -vf"
So, at least I do not have to check and delete files by hand...... (and receive an email reporting deleted files, when it happens)

Well, smf does not generate core files.
Those are generated by the server after a critical failure in something

Since no one else's smf is generating those files, it must be something specific to your configuration... and any decent host should be able to help debug the issue more than just trying to pass the blame.
