You have to make sure it hosted on a website.
Then use repair settings to fix the links
What is repair_settings.php? (https://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Repair_settings.php)

if you dont know how to setup a good host/server you should not be running SMF from your PC. you need to find a host and purchase a domain.

1- Get a Host and a domain.
Do not try to host on your own personal machine. Really.... don't do it. Just don't.

2- Set up a database on your new host.

3- upload the installation archive, extract and run install.php

Do you know what a web host is? They are the ones that will host your site that will be on their servers (as opposed to having it on your own computer)

you have already built the forum - you lack basic NETWORKING knowledge,

what would really help you understand how to share it would be to get another computer (and connect it to your first one) and then figure out how to access it from there.

You must try to understand TCP/IP - each computer has to have a unique address (like we people do, in our homes).

my test system is, at it's most simple form, at least 2 computers - 192.168.0.110 and 192.168.0.180 a - connected via, at least, a single cable from computer to computer, a SWITCH (hub) or a router.

i use 192.168.0.110's browser to access my shared SMF (which lives on 192.168.0.180) -- http://192.168.0.180.

then once you understand this, you are on your way ... just like how to connected from your computer to this site/forum.

if you do NOT understand this concept then you must try to learn somehow.

google is your friend here.

good luck.

it may easier for you to get help if you specify your native language via the Select language: option under the Search button area.

You need to buy hosting services in order on to be able to serve webpages to users on the internet.
Perhaps take a look at Hosts, Hosting and Commercial Services (https://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?board=4.0)

Everything that you just said.... no no no no no no no and a million times no

This user has no clue and thus should never ever ever ever ever try to use his local computer as a web host.

He needs to find a host, purchase a hosting plan, purchase a domain and then install smf in the site that he just purchased.

of course not, i agree but that is how i started.

i never said to try to use his local computer as a web host, at least that was never the implication.

i was just suggesting that he/she learns some basics before moving forward.

with that very low level of knowledge, they will struggle with even trying to administer SMF, let alone adding mods etc.

EDIT: I do concede that networking skills are not mandatory in using this product.
